Megan's brain is a little more than half
of what is should be: the right side is developed normally,
but the left side is minimal. At some points, it seems
vanished, other parts there is about 30% of what should
normally be there. Sometime during Kimberly's pregnancy, Megan's carotid
artery either became deformed, collapsed, or shut down and
that caused the flow of blood to her brain on the left to
stop. It received blood from veins on the right, but not
enough. He is calling it a vascular accident, the same as
what happens with a hypoplastic heart in which the aortic
arch fails to connect. They say this is so rare they have
never seen it before, that there is no name for it, and that
there are probably only a handful of children who have ever
had this.
Pictures coming soon!
