The various
activities of the club undertaken during the Rotary year
2004-05 are listed below:
CLUB SERVICE
Bulletin:
The bulletin was printed on a regular
basis in which the Club news, District news, RI news as well
as some important non-rotary news are being printed on a
regular basis. News related to the Rotary designated months
was printed accordingly. News related to major events of
the District was printed repeatedly till the events are
completed.
Fellowship
-
The 38th Installation
Ceremony was celebrated on 28th June, 2004 at
Gorky Sadan and attended by DG, DGE, IPDG, District
officials, neighbouring club officials, guests and about
90% of our members with their spouse.
-
DG visit was held on 9th
August, 2004 and followed by fellowship and dinner. The
members enjoyed the evening with their family.
-
Our club co-hosted the International
Night, and Indo-Japan cultural exchange programme, where
many of our members were present during the programme,
fellowship and dinner.
-
Our club was one of the host clubs in
an evening with The Centennial Bell at Rotary Centre,
where many PDGs, DGE, district officials, and Rotarians
of other clubs were present during the fellowship and
dinner.

After one of the club’s centennial
project of ENT Checkup camp for 100 children, the
members present during the camp gather for a fellowship
meet at the residence of PP Rtn Barun Chatterjee on 17th
October.

Bijoya & Diwali Meet was organised by
the club at the rooftop of President Avijit’s house.
Members and annes shared jokes, poems and songs with
each other. There were pleasant exchanges and humours
galore. Food was excellent in shape of Briyani, chanp,
burhani.

After the Health Awareness Camp at
Basanti, Sunderban on 16th January,2005,
club members and their spouse of our club and RC Outram
enjoyed the Launch party, with fellowship and lunch
which includes prawn, mutton and fish in large
quantities.

Rtn Awadesh Kumar Sinha, our very
active club member, hosted a fellowship and lunch
get-together at his residence, where most of our members
with their families were present and enjoyed the
evening.

Finally, Rtn Dhruba Kundu hosted the
clubs Charter Night celebration at his residence on 15th
June, 2005.
Club Assembly
-
The first club assembly was organised
on 23rd May, 2004 at Dalhousie Athletic Club,
followed by fellowship and lunch.
-
The second club assembly was
organised on 26th July, 2004, during the AG
visit at Outram Club.
-
The third club assembly was organised
on 9th August, 2004
-
The fourth club assembly was
organised on 24th April, 2004
Meeting
-
Regular Weekly Meeting was held as
usual with frequent Guest speakers who spoke on various
subjects related to Rotary and non-Rotary matters.
-
The club organised a special meeting
with spouse, where the members were requested to bring
in their spouses in the meeting,
-
Our club has organised joint meetings
with various other Rotary clubs in our District.
-
Bulletin was published in each and
every Regular Weekly Meeting by the most efficient
Bulletin Editor,
-
A total of nine board meetings were
held during this year.
Inauguration of Inner Wheel Club of
Cossipore
-
This is something special for the
spouses of our members. Inner Wheel Club of
Cossipore was formed and Chartered in this year,
with the strongest support of our members who
motivated their spouse to form this organisation.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
1.
School bags were donated to the underprivileged
children of Pally Unnayan Samiti of Baruipur and The
Calcutta Orphanage of Shyampukur in North Kolkata.
2.
A cheque of Rs. 5000/- was donated to Father
Fernandez of Pally Unnayan Samiti, Baruipur.
3.
The club was one of the co-host clubs in the District
programme -‘World Zoonosis Day’.
4.
Study materials were distributed to the Calcutta
Orphanage at Shyampukur, Kolkata.
5.
One of the co-host of the 57th
Independence Celebration at West Bengal Kabaddi Association.
6.
Organised a Sit-n-Draw competition for little
children, jointly with Darjeepara Milon Sangha, the theme
being “Preserve Planet Earth’ and ‘Drug Abuse’. DGE Swapan
Mukherjee handed over the prizes at a later date.
7.
Club donated sarees to Senior Citizen Commiittee
Chairman Rtn Bhupen Roy to be distributed to Senior citiznes
8.
T-shirts, sweets and biscuits were distributed to 100
children before the Puja festival in the month of October,
2004.
9.
Jointly with 10 other clubs, our club donated an ECG
machine to the mobile unit of Bharat Sebashram at Kasba. DG
Prabir Chakraborty handed over the machine and medicines on
behalf of the clubs.
10.
As a Centennial Project, club organised an ENT
Check-up camp for 100 small children at Corporation School,
Shyampukur. Three eminent ENT specialists of UDICHI
Head-Neck centre supported us in this noble cause. T-shirts,
biscuits and sweets were distributed to the children, while
magic tricks were shown by magician Prabhat to entertain the
children.
11.
Our club was one of the host clubs in the ‘Anti Drug
Rally’, organised by the District.
12.
The club organised a mega event of the year at
Basanti, Sunderban. A Health Awareness Programme with a
follow-up plans for the emergency patients. Around 200
patients were treated by eminent doctors in the field of ENT,
Gynaecology, Paediatrics and General Surgery.
13.
An Eye Screening Camp was again organised at Basanti,
Sundeban at a later date, jointly with RC Calcutta. About
160 patients were screened and 23 patients were selected for
free Cataract Operation at a later date.
14.
Six IOL operations were conducted jointly with RC
Calcutta at Lake Town Alokon Nursing Home. The club arranged
for the sunglasses and post operative medicines for the
patients.
15.
Our club started with a continuing project of
‘Arsenic Awareness’ jointly by Global Matrix. This project
is unique of its kind.
VOCATIONAL SERVICE
VOCATIONAL AWARDS
The vocational appreciation awards and
felicitation were given to Smt Mahasweta Debi for her
Vocational Excellence in the field of Literature and to Sri
Amarnath Ghosh for his vocational excellence in the field of
arts and crafts.
YOUTH SERVICE
-
Our club was one of the host clubs to
organise a Seminar on ‘Swami Vivekananda – an Icon of
Indian Youth’ at Nehru Museum in the month of September.
-
Our club was one of the co-host clubs
to organise RYLA at IIM, Joka. President Avijit
demonstrated Aikido and spoke on its functions related
to Time, Space and Conflict management, in one of the
session.
-
Again our club was one of the co-host
clubs to organise the District Sports Meet for Children,
organised by District Naba Disha Committee.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
-
PULSE POLIO
All the Mop-up Operations, NID and SNIDs
were successfully organised by the club in KMC Ward No 3,
Borough No. 1. Large-scale publicity was made and food
packets were distributed to the health workers in all the
booths under this ward area.

We are one of host clubs to organise
the ‘International Night’, an Indo-Japanese cultural
exchange programme, held at Rotary Sadan, with
fellowship and dinner for all those present during the
evening.
-
During Durga Puja we had honoured
guest in Rtn Dr. Peter Mossman from Rotary Club of
Barcelona, Spain, Mr Peter Scidler of Caricus Disaster
Relief Society of Germany, his counterpart in New Delhi,
Fr. Faustin and Fr. Fernandez. Our club members took all
of them for a Puja Pandel hopping with the District
Sharad Samman Committee team. Later they were taken to
Outram Club for fellowship and dinner. Rtn Peter Mossman
assured to have service activities relating to women
empowerment and training with our club in future.

Rotary Foundation Workshop was held
in one of our Regular club meeting, where members of our
club and neighbouring clubs exchange an interactive
session with the District Officials regarding Matching
grants and TRF contribution.

One of our member PP Shankar Bhowmick
represented our club in the Rotary Convention held at
Chicago.
