Dana Morgan - West Seneca NY

LEATHERNECK AT THE HELM

by Chuck Dean

In April 2000, Dana Morgan, Point Man outpost leader from New York, was appointed to the post of President of Point Man International Ministries. Dana served in Vietnam as a Marine with the job of clearing and sweeping mines. Twice he stepped on mines that did not explode (these incidents were written about in the Stars and Stripes, the premier newspaper for the entire American military). Today Dana will tell you without hesitation that God miraculously saved his life, but he will also admit that he never gave God a second thought while in Vietnam. He could not understand how a "loving" God would allow his friends to die for what seemed like a meaningless war.

All of this changed in 1973 when Dana was introduced to the Lord. He felt that it was time to surrender and become a Christian. It was the right time, the right place, and he was at a point of need to hear the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

At this same time, PTSD hit him hard. He began to have nightmares, flashbacks and a whole range of symptoms that were a result of being in Vietnam. A buddy invited him to attend a conference in Virginia - a conference designed to help Vietnam veterans deal with their past. Not having much hope that anything would help, he went along to respect his friend. During the conference, after listening to several speakers (all Vietnam veterans) relate their stories to the audience, he realized his problems were Vietnam-related. As he sat and listened to them speak, God was hammering away at the wall he had carefully constructed to protect himself and his denial. When an invitation came to receive prayer he did not hesitate to kneel and pray. It was then that he gave all his burdens and bad memories to the Lord. All the guilt and mistakes were laid before God and he asked Him to take them away. God was faithful to do it. When he stood up, he knew that his troubles and burdens had been taken away and that he was now a new creation in Jesus Christ.

Dana is an ordained minister and serves as an elder in his church. His ministry focus remains on helping veterans and he is leading Point Man International Ministries into the new century.
