Xander Harris
The Smart-Ass of Sunnydale

Xander is my favorite character on BtVS. He's just so damn witty, which manages to make me laugh in every episode, and often times much more than that. Xander is like the guy everyone wants to know, but no one wants to admit to liking. He's cute in a non-offensive, non-lustful sort of way, but kind of doofy looking too. I personally think that he is cuter than Angel, and that is either a reflection on the part that I am completely insane (?), or I'm seeing more to Xander than his boysish good looks. Xander is cuter because he has a personality. Of course, Angel has a personality now, but not the kind of personality that is good -- Angel is bad personality boy. Anyway, back to Xander. He's obnoxious in that really likable kind of way. He's smart, but not a genius; sarcastic, but not subtle. He's always sardonic, so when you catch him being serious, something serious is up. Every high school has someone like him, except maybe some redneck high school where no one understands the nuances of sarcasm. (Okay, before anyone gets all offended, my dad is from West Virginia, so I admittedly come from redneck roots.)

Xander, Xander, Xander...what can you say about him? Well, for starters, I absolutely love Xander and Cordy. They make a really great fun couple, which is exactly what the show needed at that point. Angel and Buffy were, well, Angel and Buffy. Ugh. Making out, but not fun-like in the Xander/Cordy tradition. Need I remind anyone of Bad Eggs, and how much Angel and Buffy made out and how boring it was? Ugh again. But Xander and Cordy, ohh, they are different. I love how they fight all the time, it's so cute to watch them. And while at the beginning of their relationship, it was definitely all physical (understandable from both sides!) they are really getting to like each other now. Which isn't to say that they won't fight, but it's going to be different. Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered, one of my favorite eps, showed just how much Xander cares about Cordy. He was so crushed when she dumped him, not just because of the scorn he received and the significance of the fact it was Valentine's Day, but because he dug her. He was all nervous waiting for her to come to the Bronze, so he could give her the necklace, hoping that she would like it. Of course, he seems to have made Amy cast the spell for purely revenge-filled reasons. That is probably why the spell didn't work, because Amy told Xander that his intentions had to be pure. While he claimed that his reasons were pure "as the fallen snow," they really weren't, because he was enraged with shame at his being throughly mocked. It was because the spell didn't work that Xander realized how very much he had wanted it to because he liked her. Seeing the each of them come to the aid of another was kind of funny, but touching and adorable also, especially when Xander rescued Cordy from the mob in the school and carried her outside. I really want Cordy and Xander to stay together, but I am not foolish enough to think that it's going to last. Buffy and Xander will get together eventually (*groan*). I guess I'll like them together, but I like him with Cordy right now.
