A day out watching the NZ National 4WD Rally National Finals. The idea of the day is for competitors for try and negotiate 32 hazards around the course. A sucessfull completion earns no penalty points, otherwise points are added according to how far through a hazard the vehicle was able to get.
Some of the events were fairly straight foward, although absolutely impossible to complete. Just drive down a small hill, turn around and and attempt to climb back up. As you can see, they were able to trap the unsuspecting.
Another Down and Up event, the up would have been impossible even on foot, and again there were some spills.
Even the straight hill climbs were in the the almost impossible class, once momentum was lost even the V8 powered machies just dug themselves in.
The swamp was allways a good area to watch as another machine powers it's way out. And 'You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel'? Another withdrawal is towed away
Best hazard had to be the pond, here a vehicle enters, attempts to exit, fails and is towed out of the hazard by the digger, like most of the competitors were....
Some of the smaller vehicles had a tough time in the water hazard, and most competitors endend up like the one in this picture, seen here collecting score card from a stage official.
This guy made a decent effort at getting out of the pond, but only the succeded in moving some mud
The best effort at the pond was this competitor, after making is 1/2 way up the bank and loosing traction he simply opened out the V8 with all 4 wheels locked in drive and dissapeared from view...Yeeehaaaa!!!
