Road Opening Schedule
Road Map
Roads will start to open to bicycles hikers and rollerblades
in late March, as conditions allow. Announcements will be made as roadways
are cleared. Call the park at (307)344-7381 for updates.
Roads are scheduled to open to motor
vehicles on the following schedule:
Open All Year:
Gardiner to Mammoth to Cooke City
April 21, 2000:
West side roads open. Mammoth to Norris
to Madison Junction to Old Faithful;
West Yellowstone to Madison Junction; and Norris to Canyon.
May 5, 2000:
East and south roads open.
Canyon to Fishing Bridge
to East Entrance; Fishing Bridge to West Thumb to South
Entrance.
As soon thereafter as conditions allow:
West Thumb to Old
Faithful; Cooke City via Coulter Pass to the Chief Joseph
Scenic Highway intersection.
May 26, 2000:
Long Lake gate via Beartooth
Pass to the Montana
stateline.
June 16, 2000:
Tower to Canyon via Dunraven Pass
Road Closing Schedule
November 6, 2000:
All park roads close except the road from
Gardiner to Cooke City. Roads open to snow vehicles starting
in mid December.
The road from the North Entrance to Upper Mammoth
Terrace, and Mammoth via Tower Junction to Northeast Entrance
remains open to wheeled vehicles year-round.
