The singing group was formed in November 1977. Back then a group of enthusiasts held audition, which established the  first cast of the octet. In spring 1979, after 18 months of preparations, the octet singers presented themselves at their first independent concert.

The first guest appearance abroad was made in 1980. The octet sang at the festival of Dalmatian Singing Groups ( Dalmatinske klape) in Omiš, Croatia. The performance was a great success.

In 1983, when they made a guest appearance in Austria ( Styria) the members of the octet established strong ties with the Nestelbach choir. At home the octet cooperates with many cultural groups.

In 25 years of its existence the octet performed throughout Slovenia , had tens of concerts abroad and became indispensable in the Zagorje Community

The octet has a rich repertoire of songs including not only folk and modern songs, but also classical melodies, Dalmatian songs and gospels.

To honour octet's 15th anniversary, a cassette with the simple title "Zagorski oktet"(The Zagorje Octet) was released. The second album with the title "Pa da bi znal bi vam zapel" (If I could I'd sing to you) came out to mark the 20th anniversary of octet's existence. In 2002 a CD with the title "Kaj je n'coj en fajn večer" (It's a fine evening  tonight) was released to celebrate the octet's 25 years of performing.

The Zagorje Octet has received many awards for its work.

The octet's activities have lately been strongly supported by a successful local company-EVJ Elektroprom Kisovec, whose director and owner Janez Vidmar says that The Zagorje Octet with its successful performances, CDs and years of being on stage has displayed perseverance and working zeal of its members. Such achievements require a lot of practice and common work, the only pay being successful performances and released recordings of the songs.

Throughout the years financial help also came from the Zagorje Community.

Today's members of the octet are:

First tenor voice: Miroslav Baloh , Tomaž Kržišnik

Second tenor voice: Gregor Kržišnik, Alojz Prvinšek

First bass voice: Jurij Očkon , Štefan Škrabar

Second bass voice: Zdravko Jenko, Anton Fele

The octet is run by Urška - Magdalena Kos. Franci Kukovica is its organization manager.
