Pack 53 has already had a busy year.
October was the District Cub Scout Campout, called Fun with Son. (Or more affectionately known as Pain in the Rain). We all had a great time! To find out more about our weekend Click Here
We also had our annual Cake Bake and Auction at the October Pack Meeting. Participants bake a cake at home, and bring it to the pack meeting. We have a real live auctioneer auction them to the highest bidder. The cake theme was HALLOWEEN. There were lots of yummy cakes. Plus we helped raise money for our pack, and had a good time.
NOVEMBER
November ended our Trails End Popcorn sale. The top sellers got to throw pies in the faces of the Popcorn Kernel and our Cub Master. Now THAT was FUN.
The pack uses the proceeds from the popcorn sale to recharter the pack, and get every boy in the pack a subscription to Boys Life Magazine. Our pack was one of the top sellers in the district. And the profits help to make sure that everyone in our pack can afford to stay in cub scouting this year.
December was a short month for scouting, but a busy one. We built a float, and participated in the County Fair Parade. Here's a picture of last years award winning float.
JANUARY
January is when we hold our annual Pine Wood Derby. Every one is busy building their cars. The winners of the 1998 Pinewood Derby Race are (drum roll please):
DESIGN AND APPEARANCE:
TIGER CUB Parker - Den 11 WOLF Brian S. - Den 7 BEAR Blake - Den 1 Webelos Darren - Den 14 Flaming Arrows
RACE RESULTS:
FIRST PLACE Bryan - Webelos I Rattlesnake Patrol (our very own Bryan) SECOND PLACE Layton D. - Bear Den 6 THIRD PLACE Pattrick D. - Webelos II Vikings Patrol
The January Pack Meeting held a big surprise for Assistant Cub Master Ben Nix. Before this school year, Mr. Nix had been our Cub Master for many years. Sadly, this is his last year with our pack. During the popcorn awards, the Popcorn Kernel, Mr. Hyde, introduced the BEN NIX TOP POPCORN SELLERS AWARD. The top three Trails Ends sellers in the Pack have their names engraved on a plate, which is placed on the award plaque. It looks VERY nice, and is a tribute to the years of quality service Mr. Nix has devoted to Scouting as both a Cub Master and a parent. Mr. Nix has also been a volunter trainer for the Nischi Sipo District for Cub Scout Leader Training.
Mr. Nix will be sorely missed. But Pack 53 is very proud to honor him in this way. The plaque will stay in the Pack's Trophy Case in the school foyer, where everyone in school can be reminded of Mr. Nix and his contribution to Scouting.
FEBRUARY - BLUE & GOLD
The Blue and Gold Banquet is this month. Pack 53 is proud to announce that we will be bridging all of our Webelos II to Boy Scout Troop 33. This is a closely knit group where each member has worked hard to earn their arrow of light award, and will be presented with it at the Blue and Gold banquet.
Also this month, we had a bike rodeo and the Scout Show. We are all busy selling our Scout Show tickets, and will be at the Scout Show to run the District Pine Wood Derby. Pack 53 is honored to be asked to run the District Derby, and will DO OUR BEST at the Scout Show.
MARCH
March was a quick month for the Pack. We had Spring Break, and the Pack meeting was moved up a week. We sure did miss those graduating Webelos. The Pack looked kind of slim. But the remaining Webelos are working hard to fill in the gap.
The Scout Show patches were awarded for selling Scout Show tickets. The number one ticket salesman was the Rattlesnake Patrols very own Phillip. CONGRATULATIONS PHILLIP!!!
APRIL
Not only that, but Spring soccer and baseball has started. So lots of the Pack members are busier
than they ever imagined.
