COLOR & MAKE-UP

Skincare and Cosmetics      The Cosemetic Color Wheel

Skincare and Cosmetics
The skin is the largest organ in the body, covering an area of approximately one and a half square yards. It secretes sebum, which oils the hair; the sweat glands eliminate waste products. The skin also acts as a sense organ. Our skin is both light and sound sensitive and through it we absorb colors and substances such as essential oils. Light penetrates our cells and cause complex chemical changes to occur; sunlight provides the only means by which our bodies can naturally produce vitamin D.
The huge cosmetic industry encourages us to paint ourselves- our faces, nails, and hair- in as many different colors as can be invented for its products. But painting on color does not give beauty, but rather this appears when you are healthy and your eyes shine, your skin glows and your hair glistens with colors. We may however, need to add extra color to our faces if we have been living in a cold climate or are looking pale from stress and overwork.

Facial cosmetics
Formerly most women wore thick foundation. However, in recent decades a shift to a more healthy lifestyle and diet has meant our complexions are becoming clearer. Most of us now use the minimum of face makeup. Rather than covering your skin with foundation and base, it is much better to work from within, so that you skin develops a naturally smooth and glowing tone. The amount of water you drink has a direct bearing on the condition or your skin. Dry, winkled skin is crying out for hydration and, although you may spend a fortune on moisturizing creams, it is much better to hydrate yourself within. Cleansing and toning with face masks and mud packs have also been used for centuries to improve the complexion.

Clays
Colored earth or clay has absorbed minerals and plants from the Earth and energy from the sun over millions of years, and as a result contains many healing qualities.
There are red, yellow, black, green, white, and brown clays. These combine beautifully with essential oils to make face and body treatments, as well as being the base for many cosmetics and face powder. Face powders and face packs today are also made from crushed rocks, such as fine chalk.

The following colored clays can be used as face packs to cleanse and improve the texture of our skin.

  • Red clay is a useful tonic for the skin because or its iron content.
  • White kaolin is milder, astringent, and good for sensitive skin; it removes impurities.
  • Pink clay, which is a mixture of red and white, is popular for tired, dry, and very sensitive skins.
  • Fuller´s earth, a soft brown clay, has a very stimulating effect on the skin because it removes the top layer of dead cells, leaving the skin silky smooth and clean.
  • Green clay is rich in minerals and has a rejuvenating and nourishing effect, stimulating the circulation of oxygen.

Lips and Nails
Synthetically colored lipsticks and nail polishes send out conflicting vibrations. There are alternitives to both that can be used to make lips and nails more attractive.

Nails
Everyone would like strong healthy nails, and plentiful intake of calcium promotes healthy teeth, hairs, bones, and nails. Ridges or white marks on the nails usually indicate stress or a mineral or vitamin deficiency. Try to use more of the color orange in your life in order to assist in the formation of calcium. If you wish to paint your nails, it is better to use a naturally colored polish for everyday use and only use a brighter more fun color for a special night out. Buffering nails makes them look as shiny as clear polish does, with the bonus that they won´t chip and there´s no drying time.

Lips
The condition of our lips often reflects our state of healthy internally. Dry cracked lips can indicate a deficiency of vitamin B2, or be a symptom or oral thrush or allergy to lipsticks or cream. Cold sores often develop as a response to overexposure to sun, stress, or just being run-down. Blue-tinged lips can show that you are not getting enough oxygen into your blood; this may mean that your heart is not pumping efficiently or that you have a lung problem. Red energy stimulates the heart and raises blood pressure, so use this color to improve your circulation. In the summer, when your skin has more color, select a slightly darker lipstick. Modify lip colors by mixing shades together; beige will tone down bright color, while light pink will make any shade of lipstick prettier and more pastel. The exact tone will depend on your skin coloring and clothing, but here is a guide.
  • Dark hair: true red, pinks, plums, burgundy, raisin, blackberry
  • Brown or auburn hair: brick red, orange, coral, peach, rust
  • Blond or Light hair: peach, warm pink, coral

Lip balms are extremely useful in dry or windy weather and are available in many delicious aromatic scents and tastes. Again, try you use ones made with natural flavorings and not based on animal products.

Eyes
When we talk about the color of our eyes, we are usually referring to the overall effect. In reality the iris is made up of varieties of subtle shades, all of which blend together to create a general eye color.
Try to stick to colors that either contrast or harmonize with your own eye color. The principles of color show that colors look more intense and striking when set off against complementary shades, while similar colors create a much softer look.
Enhancing your eyes with color is like painting a beautiful land- or seascape. Colors should blend subtly together so that there are no harsh lines. Think of different moods created by the sea or sky for your inspiration and link these to your personality and coloring.

Eye makeup for blue eyes
Blue-eyed people should not use blue eye shadow. If you have blue eyes they will appear much clearer and brighter when high-lighted by a contrasting beige, cream, gold, or gray. If you wish to use blue, select a shade that is different from that or your eyes.
Eye makeup for brown eyes
Brown eyes can be complemented with shades and tints of brown, soft mauves or violet, green, or pinky-beige.
Eye makeup for hazel and green eyes People with hazel and green eyes look better using shades and tints of pink, bronze, and gold.

Mascara and eyeliner Dark-haired people or those with gray or white hair brown, green, or blue eyes should use black or black-brown mascara with black or charcoal liner. If you have brown or auburn, or golden hair and green or brown eyes then use brown or light brown mascara with brown or green-brown liner. Brunettes or fair people with blue or gray eyes should wear gray mascara, with teal or gray liner.
