Athrill -
PC Perspective: An Elf with a long flappy leather
coat and spellbook. Go away, there is nothing more to see here. Do not
watch him cast spells. He knows nothing about the strange martial music
that just started playing in the quiet stealthy moments.
DM Perspective: This wild mage hid his chaotic
nature for a long time before even his own party discovered the secret.
Wierd things happened when he cast spells (more than even with an average
wild mage), and yet no one ever noticed who was responsible for them, as
people were in mass combat until the fight with the Marilith. Even then,
there was no big explosion. Oh well, so it goes... He used to have
a familiar (a grippli named Hop), but since had that
tie severed and spent manyn years as partners within the group. Now
he's out to be drunk and happy.
Butterfly -
DM Perspecitve: The tabaxi are a race of cat
humanoids native to the Chult region of Toril (home of the Forgotten Realms
setting). Butterfly is a female tabaxi who makes the savageness of
the standard tabaxi look like a kitten. She and her greatsword strike
fear into her allies as much as her enemies with her savageness and unperdicability.
She hangs around mostly to drool over Tokkon, being
another planewalking kitty. The fun part is that she loves to play
up her cat side by taking lick baths in public and regularly ordering mice
and milk at any tavern she attends. She may not look or act much like a
butterfly, but her path is just as eratic.
Hop -
Player's Perspective: A two-foot tall frog with
a big, well, not so big, okay, pretty darn small, sword. Tends to climb
walls and ribbit a lot while intimidating people.
DM Perspective: Hop was a grippli familiar that
broke off from it's master (Athrill). Lanse actually
seemed to like playing him more that the "master", and since has been and
important character. Kinda fun. If you want rules for running Grippli P.C.'s
in second edition, look at Dragon issue #262. Commonly greats anyone
he meets by giving them a salted herring, since he saw how cheap they were.
He also has a worm (Malgrost) in his head. He's now semi-retired
with his wife Leap back in Chult.
Hurin -
Player's Perspective: Hurin is a tall and lanky
man of almost comical proportions. He dresses as one well traveled, but
with lingering hints of a more refined city life. A holy symbol notes that
long wandering in the paths and woods, mostly in Toril, have led him to
Silvanus. He is quiet and contemplative, with a knack for languages and
directions, and an almost unsettling ability to fit into strange places
shortly after arriving.
DM Perspective: This human ranger specialized
in the skills needed for an trader, but never expected to do it on the
planes. After helping free Waukeen from the clutches of Graxxit,
he became a trader/ negotiator for Jo-Anne's to get new supplies and supply
lines. His specilization in travel, knowledge, and fitting into new
cultures makes him the perfect agent. Now that he works for both
Jo-Anne's and Mara's in that capacity, he keeps getting to see the worlds
in joy.
Mara Heartsinger-
DM Perspective: Mara once was a down on her luck
half-elf doing anything she could do to survive on the streets of
Waterdeep. Then she heard the joy of music and fell in love with
it and with Milil, it's god. Now she is nearly a proxy for the diety,
bringing joy everyday in the recently re-opened Jo-Anne's, which she now
completely owns. Her bardic and clerical powers aside, her main party
strength is common sense, often by shutting up Seglan,
with whom she's had a wonderful brother/sister type relationship.
She's the adoptive mother of Serlia, a siren trying to make good, and has
very recently been elected to the Sigil City Council (mostly on the campaigning
of her chief bartender Harmony).
Maxmellion the Magnificent -
PC's Perspective: 'A somewhat flamboyantly dressed
Teifling with long blue hair, a large smile, and hands that look rather
odd because he has 6 fingers with 4 joints on each, walks up and bows to
you with a florish. "Hello my good friends, let me introduce myself. I
am Maxmellion the Magnificent, Star of that fabled troupe, Tearri's Terrific
Tightrope walking, .. " several irate voices LOUDLY break in, "SHUP UP
MAX!" Max looks rather annoyed for a second, then starts to idly juggling
as he continues to speak, though for the life of you, you have NO idea
the balls and apples keep appearing from. "As I was saying before I was
so rudely interruped, I am a performer of the profession normally known
as a Jongleur. I am currently employed as a entertainer at Jo-Anne's, though
I have been known to help certian other patrons out with their difficulties..."
He suddenly stops his line of conversation and excuses himself. When you
turn to see what startled him, you see a pair of burly men in leather trenchcoats
with badges from the Ego Police standing just inside the enterance to the
room.' as spoken by the player, Thomas.
DM's Perspective: He's says most of it pretty
clearly. He spends most of his time throwing things and bouncing. However,
he came into the campaign when his troupe was massacred by Yeth Hounds.
and he accidentally got stuck in Plague-Mort during the Swallowing. Now,
he is in charge of the entertainment at Jo-Anne's (owned by Mara),
and his old mentor Tearri does the same for Mara's (owned by Jo-Anne).
It's all he needs now, excuses to bounce even more.
Stumpy -
DM's Perspective: Born Ovum, "Stumpy" is your
average dwarf dedicated to Clangdon Silverbeard. This berserking
priest/barbarian has been know to solve every problem with one of three
things: Clangdon, Axe, or Beer. In fact, he's well known for him
home brewed Gut-Shaker, which he conviently has on tap in his chest (with
the aid of a portable hole). He knew Seglan
("Pointy-ears") back before either of them left Toril, and caught up with
him again in the Undcermountain. He is the hack 'n slash to Seglan's
swishy-poke. With weapons holy to two different patrons (Clangdon
and Waukeen, the latter of which he helped rescue), he's known to destroy
lots, and needing to bite down on his axe to calm himself down again afterwards.
He has his "Stumpy Squad" often with him, especially when he does his pleasure
fighting in the wars of Acheron. He's frustrated when he can't bring
"da boyz" with him on adventures, but his companions somehow think that
a horde of dwarven battle-ragers isn't very subtle...
Tokkon -
DM's Perspective: Tokkon is a big strong wemic
(lion-centaur). Born on the Beastlands, he left the plane of his
home by accident, but rather found he liked the travel. He still
goes back to his home tribe, but finds he is a little too cultured for
them often. This fighter spends most of his time hanging around with
his friends, being the bouncer for Mara's, just as he had for Mara
at Jo-Anne's. Known for his nasty work with his halberd and for taking
out a Vrock in one-on-one combat weaponless, he looks for greater challenges
regularly. Now, he just tries to figure out why Butterfly
looks at him in such a wierd way, but ignores him when he puts on the ring
that makes him look like a human who is a plains barbarian.
"Big Guy" -
DM Perspective: "Big Guy" was a Firbolg giant-kin.
He was a warrior/shaman who wandered off from the group after they first
got to Sigil after the immortal pomagranet portal mishap. He was slightly
useful for a while, but after a while, needed to go home. That was the
last ANYBODY heard from him...
That is until recently. It was discovered that
in that he was a proxy of the diety Annam (head of the giant panthion).
He became wiser and more clear in his speaking. His new powerful position
made him a powerful ally for the Planescrapers.
Father Francis/Mother Francine
-
G'reth -
DM's Perspective: G'reth was a PC until the player
stopped playing, at which point she/he became and NPC. He is was a rogue
Githyanki, who was changed by a potion from a female into a male. Since
then, he was with the party (including during the Swallowing of Plague-Mort),
until he was finally tracked down and killed by the Lich-Queen's githyanki.
He was a warrior with a big-assed sword. That's what he did. Ah, live by
the sword, and die with your head on a pike. Wait, something about that
ain't quite right...
Jo-Anne Greatheart -
From Jo-Ann's Perspective: Me? I'm an elf from
Toril. Just accidently fell through a portal and landed here. I adventured
around the planes with the Flash and found my trademark Crossbow. Got it
from Mechanicus. Put more than one sodding addle-cove in the dead book,
it has. I much prefer though my current life. Since I retired, I've had
three bars. First one was taken over by the Hardheads, but the second one,
with my partnership with Mara, had grown large. Harry really can advertize...
But that burned down due to those frick'n hardheads! Oh well, without
having someone nice to share witticisms with (Seglan), a girl could be
bored easily. Now I own Mara's in the City of Glass to be with my kid.
You can't be bored here. No way. Gotta go serve someone else now. Come
back later during Planewalker's Tales, and you might learn something...
DM's Perspective: Jo-Anne was originally
an off the cuff NPC that owned a bar catering to clueless mostly for when
the group first arrived in Sigil. Since then she's developed into the parties
best friend. Her bar has had many changes over time, and now is a towering
4 story building in the City of Glass, revialing even Chirper's, but not
going too well compaired to Reverie. She's characterized by a quick wit,
her love of independance (she was a Free Leaguer), and openmindedness.
Over the years, Seglan and the others have become her family, and she loves
it when they are around. However, not everything is completely right. She
can tell trouble is brewing. That is why she left before the Faction War
came. Now she lives with her son Radient in the bar, conviently connected
back to Jo-Anne's. Most people still don't know her old, secret,
dragon lifetimes...
Loc -
Player's Perspective: "Feathered wings, a low
level mage's hitpoints, and FACINATING walls of fire just *don't* go together.
RIP. Fried Deva anyone? Got a great drum stick here...".
DM's Perspective: Loc started as an aasimar with
deva heritage. He lived in Sigil and was a Senate through and through.
He loved reading, and loved playing with spells. He turned into a full
deva when he took a drink from a strnage pool found on a dead god as he
and the party was raiding a githyanki fortress. They were there to find
some of "Aoskar's Blood" to help cure a plague effecting only Free Leaguers.
In any cases, it also had some other effects (like reducing his hit points),
and he finally dies while the group was running throught the sewers of
Plague-Mort (Just after it was swollowed by the Abyss), and their chasers
just dropped a torch into the tan'ari poop. Boom. He-he.
Malgorn -
Player's Perspective: An Elf with a black cloak.
Aspires to the Black Cloaks Guild, but never seems to be able to gain entrance.
Fascinated with books, once rumored to have stolen one from a Dabus. No
wait, that never happened, never mind. Tends to go on about dwarf bread.
One side of his face looks like he's been attacked by a red-hot shrubbery.
DM Perspective: This little Mage/Thief played
for a while, then left for other realities. Fun character to have around,
but always seemed to sneak when spells would help or vice verse. Was part
of big break out of Dirgedance and creation of Dance's End. He was around
for most of the big things, yet never seemed happy. Therefore, he left
for a greener reality.
