GREAT GOD ARCHETYPES
    The Great God, His mother is the Goddess. In time he grown up and becomes her lover and mate.  In many of his forms he wears animal skins and has horns of one kind or another on his head.  In time, this son of the Goddess was honored as a God himself, the oldest form of which was a horned God, and his willingness to sacrafice his life for the good of the communities was celebrated in song and ritual.

     This horned God met his death in the cold harshness of Winter.  But those who  worshiped the Goddess and God knew that he would be reborn in the Spring.

     The Great God also comes in many forms.  He is known as Pan, Cernunnos, or Cerne, Herne, Adonis, Aesclepius, Ajax, Ammon, Anubis, Apollo, Atlas, Bacchus, Balder, Dionysus, Ganesha, Hades, Hanuman, Haroeris, Heracles, Hermaphroditus, Hermes, Horus, Icarus, Jason, Khensu, Mars, Odin, Osiris, Poseidon, Ptah, Ra, Saturn, Shango, Sigurd, Theseus, Vulcan, Zeus and the Green Man.

     The most famous of the God's identities is the Horned God.  We know his as Herne, the Hunter, Pan the God of the Glades and Cernunnos the Stag Lord.
