March 2001

GOOD GRIEF, you may say, where has this year gone already? Spring has sprung upon us in its untimely fashion. The leaves litter our neighborhood and week after week we see the black bags lining the driveways. Keep up the good work of keeping our neighborhood clean.

Unfortunately, I have been getting a number of complaints from various homeowners that their neighbors’ yards are loaded with weeds and please can the HOA Board write them letters! Well, instead of letters, I am pleading with EVERYONE to rid your lawns of those pesky weeds and sprinkle “Weed and Feed” every 6 – 8 weeks, water only TWICE weekly (too much water causes the weed to flourish) and mow regularly to maintain a beautiful lawn.

The Neighborhood Watch/Disaster Rescue Team will be visiting your homes and/or calling on the phone to ask for some information from you to update our neighborhood database. We will also be issuing you with new magnets with the updated HOA Board telephone numbers at the time of their visits.

The Annual General Meeting will be held at the Club House on Friday, April 26, 2002. Please be there to meet the Board. Supper will be served!

The 2001 Board is as follows:

President:                     Caryn Greenspan    (Up for reelection)

Vice President:              Barbara Scott

Treasurer/Secretary:     Bill Wright

ARC:                             Erich Hoffelder       (Up for reelection)

Projects:                       Wendy Bennett

Director:                        Vacant

September 2001

Where has this year gone? We are already preparing for our Annual Holiday Party at the Club House. We have the date booked, so please mark your calendars for Saturday, December 15th. We will be having meetings to plan this event and if you would like to be a part of the organizing committee or just voice your opinion, please call Barbara Scott at (407) 294-0070. You can check the website (www.woodlandterrace.org) for any updates. All help will be appreciated. Last year’s party was such a success and we all had a lot of fun, so come and join us and meet your new neighbors.

On the subject of neighbors, we would like to welcome several new families to Woodland Terrace. You will find that Woodland Terrace has so much to offer within the Country Creek subdivision. Please feel free to contact the H.O.A. if you have any questions or concerns. Our website (www.woodlandterrace.org) will guide you to various areas of interest and information. For example if you would like to change the exterior colors of your house or make major landscaping changes please contact the H.O.A. Board for approval.

We have moved ahead with the structures for the signs that we are planning to install within the next few months. The plans for these are currently at Altamonte City for approval. They have been backlogged and this has hindered our progress. Once they are approved, we will be “all systems go”! We have applied for a grant ($1500) from the City of Altamonte Springs to help towards the signs and/or structures.

 Enjoy the upcoming Holidays!

PLEASE NOTE!!!

The newsletter below is the CORRECT/ORIGINAL version. This was edited by the Master Board without my permission and was printed, without the facts, in the July/August Country Creek Bulletin!

July 2001

We are “all systems go” for the entry wall/sign to Woodland Terrace! After having engineering diagrams drawn, finding several contractors to give us quotes we are now on our way to a new entry. The Board has made a decision to start the project and you can follow the progress on the web site: www.woodlandterrace.org

Please call Pat Freeman of the Country Creek Master Association with your complaints re: the back gate – annoyances that your guests cannot leave via that entrance; incompletion of the landscaping; guests unable to call to have the gate opened when another person is using the exit gate etc! I understand your frustrations, but you MUST let the master board know of these

Please maintain your gardens regularly as required by the Architectural codes in the WTHOA Covenants. If you are having trouble mowing your lawn regularly, our landscaping service is willing to provide you with a service when in the neighborhood. Any structural repairs made to the exterior of your home MUST comply with the Covenants and be totally completed. Call Erich Hoffelder at (407) 532-9105 for more information.

Check out the Calendar section of our website to see what is happening in our neighborhood. This newsletter and important phone numbers are also posted on the website.

Remember to call me if you need house cleaners, babysitters, pet sitters, tutors, computer instruction and other services.

June 2001

Where has this year gone? It is almost half way through already. Fourth of July is almost upon us and we have a parade planned again this year. ALL of Country Creek is invited to participate in our 2nd Annual 4th of July Neighborhood Parade! Decorate your bikes, wagons, strollers, walkers etc… red, white and blue and head on over to the Dunn’s front yard (1173 Woodland Terrace Trail) on Wednesday, July 4th. Bring your kids, dogs, and some cookies! We will be celebrating from 9:30 am – 11:30 am as we parade around our main block together. We will end the patriotic parade with lemonade, Popsicles, and cookies. Be sure to bring your flags and ALL your friends.

The hot weather is here in full force and we are still restricted to watering to twice a week. Take a peek at the web site (http://www.woodlandterrace.org) for some information on how to keep your lawns free from weeds and pests during these summer months. By now, most of the yards have been cleared of the winter debris and are looking nice, but several homes really need attention. Be careful that the ARC does not come knocking on your doorstep or worse, The City of Altamonte Springs may issue you a citation after being called out by an irate neighbor.

Due to a change in work commitments, we have had a switch in Board portfolios. They are as follows:

President:                                Caryn Greenspan

Vice President:                        Barbara Scott

Secretary/Treasurer:                Bill Wright

ARC:                                       Erich Hoffelder

Projects:                                  Wendy Bennett

Welcoming Committee:             Lisa and David Dunn

Remember when you plan your summer vacation that I have a list of babysitters and pet sitters. I also have a list of day camps in the area. Call (407) 293-2987 or email the H.O.A. at woodlandterrace@bigfoot.com.

Have a WONDERFUL summer!

Until next time…!

March 2001

Yikes! Winter is OVER! The leaves have fallen from our trees (and others have blown in from the rest of Country Creek, it seems) and the “fuzzy stuff” seems to be strewn all over the neighborhood. Between that and the pollen from the Pine trees the residents are having a fine time cleaning up their yards and suffering the discomforts of allergies. The welcomed rain has helped subdue the dust and pollen for the time being. It is time for us to rake up the leaves, cut back the dead limbs, and kill the weeds etc - please. Just think of it as being good for the waistlines and hips! The weeds are prolific at the moment, so Weed and Feed should be applied now. Kill them now before they take over!

Our web site is proving invaluable – a set of keys were found and returned to their owner in a matter of days due to them being published on the web. We have had some wonderful and supportive emails and we thank you for those. Keep communicating, please!

We held our Annual General Meeting on March 7th. There was a low turnout, but those who were present were most kind and praising of the Board and all their efforts for the past year. The diagrams for the new sign were shown to those attending, problem homeowners and other matters were discussed at the meeting. The minutes of the meeting will be posted on the web site in the near future. Be sure to take a look!

Our grant application for the Hedgerow Beautification Project to the City of Altamonte Springs was approved. We are going to plant shrubs along the parkway to make the existing hedge more attractive and evenly spaced. VOLUNTEERS are needed to help with this project PLEASE. Call Barbara Scott at (407) 294-0070.

Landscapers from other subdivisions are dumping garden waste into the foliage surrounding the Gazebo. Please, if you notice them doing this, ask them to STOP! Homeowners are asked NOT to dump their garden refuse in the Gazebo surrounds, Lake Lotus Park, creek etc… Put it in bags and place them on the curb on Wednesday mornings!

Our meetings have been temporarily moved to the first Tuesday of each month, as the CERT program will occupy our spot on Wednesdays. They will be at 7 pm as usual. Homeowners are always welcome. We need new Board members too, PLEASE! Call Barbara Scott at (407) 294-0070 to offer your services.

I have a list of babysitters and pet sitters. Call (407) 293-2987 or email the H.O.A. at woodlandterrace@bigfoot.com.

Until next time…!

January 20001

Welcome to the first edition of our newsletter in the new Millennium! We ended the year 2000 with a bang at our Holiday party. What fun we had – sorry if you missed it!

Congratulations and thanks go to Barbara Scott, Wendy Bennett and  Caryn Greenspan for the preparation and coordinating of the fantastic evening of events – delicious food (meats supplied by Bill Wright – thank you Mr. Bill) brought by so many of the home owners; hay rides (thanks to Phil Bennett for picking up the hay and transporting the hay ride; to our landscaper, Richard, for helping us to find the trailer; to Melissa Bennett and Livia Greenspan for decorating the trailer and clubhouse and helping with the little ones and the games) around the neighborhood with the occupants caroling and voting (thanks go to Lisa for her beautiful signs) on the holiday light displays throughout Woodland Terrace and the cul-de-sacs; the Altamonte Fire Department who brought Santa to the Club House – what a wonderful group of friendly and in-the-spirit lads! Our thanks go to them for their fine effort. Santa was a hit with the children – thank you Santa for making our night so special. To the H.O.A. Board and helpers who loaned utensils, equipment, emptied trash, cleaned up at the end (NEVER a nice job!) etc… a very BIG thank you!

Our web site is up and running at our own Domain name http://woodlandterrace.org , so please stop in and visit the site often. It is updated regularly with all sorts of things, even a desperate owner who has a lost cat! Would you like to advertise your business with an eye-catching banner? Email woodlandterrace@bigfoot.com for details. Browse the web site to see what is on the Calendar of Events – Yard clean up in February, plant the shrubs on the parkway in March, Board meetings on the first Wednesday of every month etc…

A special event coming up is our Annual General Meeting on March 7th, 2001. If you would like to volunteer for a Board position, please call Barbara Scott at (407) 294-0070 – it really IS great fun!

On March 23rd and 24th is a wonderful community event, Relay for Life, which is being coordinated by Barbara Scott in aid of the Cancer Society. This is the first such annual event for the City of Altamonte Springs which will be held at Lake Brantley High School. ALL neighborhoods are encouraged to join in the relay. Just get a team of players together for the 18 hour relay (you can walk only 5 minutes if you like!) and join in the fun.

We ARE moving ahead with the Woodland Terrace Entry signs. For more information email woodlandterrace@bigfoot.com . Check out the website for any breaking news!

Have a wonderful 2001!

November 2000

Fall is upon us and the leaves have started falling from the trees.  A tranquility seems to have blanketed the neighborhood and with the darkness coming earlier every evening the streets are empty of children.  In a couple of weeks the leaves will be all over and we can do a big clean up – weekly!

We hope you enjoyed your gifts from the H.O.A. and our thanks go to all concerned.  Bill Wright kindly donated the magnets that house the card with Board members’ phone numbers.  Thanks to Caryn and Barbara who spent MANY hours (days) getting it all in order, preparing the cards, literature, packaging and delivering door to door.  Our thanks to all the Board members who helped deliver the gifts and conduct the survey.  Thank you too, to all the homeowners who were so obliging and willing to participate in the survey for our Neighborhood Watch and Disaster preparedness database.

Remember the CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) program will be in starting in January 2001.  This course will be held weekly for several weeks.  Dates and times will be announced soon.  Call Caryn Greenspan or Bill Wright for more details.  IT IS FREE!

Our Holiday Party will be a blast this year.  Join us at the Club House on December 9th.  Festivities start at 4:40 pm.  Call Barbara Scott at (407) 294-0070 if you have misplaced your invitation, or email Caryn at woodlandterrace@bigfoot.com.  (Please note that my email address was incorrectly typed in the last newsletter)

Happy Holidays to everyone and may 2001 bring you peace and happiness!

August 2000

Woodland Terrace has joined the 21st Century!  We have our own web site.  Just key the following URL address into your Internet Explorer web browser and take a stroll through Woodland Terrace at Country Creek:  http://www.oocities.org/woodlandterrace .  We would like to welcome you to our WWW endeavor, to meet the Board, see what services our neighborhood offers and look at photos and the events we have had this past year. Some of our services include:

Robyn Palmer (407) 296-6753 is available for babysitting during the day and will do pet sitting in her home too.  Caryn Greenspan (407) 293-2987 does computer training, web design, and consulting.  Wendy Bennett (407) 822-3764 tutors students of all ages.   Livia, Melissa, and Samantha are available for after school babysitting.  Call Caryn (407) 293-2987

Summer is OVER and we are back into the swing of things – school is back in session, much to the dismay of the “bathing beauties” who were regulars at both pools!  In fact, the streets are quiet and the pools are empty in the mornings.  Once those busses bring down their STOP signs, all activities of the summer resume!  Yes, we are STILL in summer moods.

Another sign that summer is almost over is the slow down of building improvements, garden clean ups and tree trimmings.  A word of caution, my fellow neighbors, please make sure you have those service people tidy up after themselves.  We have had a number of complaints of flat tires with building studs being the major culprits!  DO NOT cut down trees without authorization from the Board.  The City of Altamonte Springs MUST also be notified, or heavy fines will ensue.  The City of Altamonte Springs is also VERY happy to cite home dwellers for NOT taking care of their lawns and surrounds!  It is an offence NOT to keep up on your yard work!  They are paid to keep our city clean and pleasing to the eye.  While on this subject, please review your CC&R’s and READ the rules carefully – do NOT repaint your home, change the roof tiles, build on an extension etc...WITHOUT approval from the Board.

Hurricane season is upon us.  Do you have an Emergency plan in case of a hurricane?  Have you notified our Board of a change of phone number – JUST IN CASE!  We will be contacting all homeowners for current phone numbers and emails.  Post up signs to alert the authorities as to how many animals you have in your house, if you are not home when an emergency arises.  Get to meet your neighbors and let them know too.

Do your children rush off to play with a neighbor and you cannot locate them when you need them?  Did they forget to call you when they arrived at their destination?  I am compiling a list of the children and teenagers in the neighborhood, parents’ names etc…  Please add YOUR family to the list!  We are a small subdivision and we ALL have these experiences at one time or another.  Call me at (407) 293-2987.

Recently we had a resident call in the police as there was a person asleep in a car outside their house in the street.  He was NOT supposed to be in the neighborhood at all!  Then there was another incident of teens suspected of house theft and stopped by the police and drugs were found in the car.  Be aware – Woodland Terrace (and the all of Country Creek) is not exempt from these sorts of incidents.  Give Bill Wright a call at (407) 294-3558  to join our Neighborhood Watch program to keep the riff raff OUT!  Cars can only be parked illegally (left tire to the curb, too close to a STOP sign, close to a fire hydrant etc…) or of a suspicious nature before the police can act on them – not just ALWAYS parked on the street, as annoying as that is.  Please be considerate of your neighbors.

The Holiday Season is fast approaching.  We are having a Holiday Party on 9th December (mark your calendars now) and we need volunteers to join committees to plan this event.  Call Barbara (407) 294-0070.

And last but not least my humblest apologies for missing the previous newsletter deadline.  What can I say?  I can only say that I am sorry – I am NOT one for making excuses – time slipped by and I FORGOT!  Please send any news additions to Caryn Greenspan (email) cybaspyd@bigfoot.com or (407) 293-2987.

June 2000

Fun!  That is the best word to describe the Woodland Terrace Annual Block Party.  Spectacular signs were up to remind folks of the event.  Our thanks to Lisa Dunn (our local artist, crafter, decorator, party planner etc…) for making them.  The balloons were up to show the way on Saturday, April 29th.

The fires were burning furiously and managed by the President Bill Talbott, tables were laden with dishes of appetizers, salads and desserts (wo)manned by Bill’s wife, Alix.  Thanks Alix for all you did. Of course, the fires would have been useless if it were not for the generous donation of hotdogs and hamburgers by Treasurer/Secretary Mr Bill Wright via his business Residential Appraisal Specialists.  Thanks Mr. Bill!

The children were kept entertained by Myrna Smith.  Myrna, without you we would have been LOST!  Thank you for organizing the fun events for the children, and the three legged race and tug-of-war with the adults joining in.

Last but not least, I MUST mention all the residents that attended.  Down they walked, drove or rode, carting along their chairs, blankets, and the “little extras” one needs for comfort.  Much socializing was done, new folks were introduced, old (not necessarily in age) folks rekindled meetings of long ago when the day to day stresses were not as prevalent as they are today.  Thank you to all who made this day possible.  We had FUN!

And we move on … July 4th is creeping upon us already.  For this special day, I have received an invitation from Lisa, David and Lauren Dunn.  It is as follows:

“Decorate your bikes and wagons red, white and blue and head on over to the Dunn’s yard (1173 Woodland Terrace Trail) on Tuesday July 4th.  Bring your kids and some cookies.  We will be celebrating “America the Beautiful” from 9:30 am – 10:30 am as we parade around our main block together.  We will end the parade with cookies and lemonade.  Be sure to bring your flags too!  Everyone is welcome!”

Sadly, I have rambled on for too long and as I have been told to shorten our news report, I must end.  BUT … not without making it known that I have a list of babysitters, 2 teachers who give extra lessons (sorry kids!), a computer teacher who is ready, willing and able to take you into the next millennium (yes, ME! I have to plug ME!), a caregiver who takes in “drop off’s” when you need a break to go shopping as well as regular daycare in her home and last but not least, we have the services of a very professional artist, decorator, designer and sign maker.

Call me if you would like to use one of their services and I will be sure to act as liaison.

Until next time …

Caryn Greenspan

March 2000

Spring has sprung in Woodland Terrace, if the appearance of Simon Squirrel, Arnold Armadillo, Rocky Raccoon, Barry Bird, Molly Mole, Sammy Snake , and their band of merry men (and women) has anything to do with it!  Our beloved Woodland critters are scurrying around the greenbelt and coming in closer and closer, especially on Sunday and Wednesday nights and in the early hours of Monday and Thursday mornings.  YES!  Our trash!  That is absolute “heaven” to Rocky and his pals – nothing better than the unwanted feasts of humans!   The time has come to foil these messy creatures and seal garbage cans if you place them on the curb the night before trash day.  Do NOT encourage them to have a fine time ripping the plastic bags to shreds and strewing the contents all over.

While on the subject of spring, please take a look around the neighborhood and see how some of the gardens are looking so beautiful after just a few hours of work on the part of the owners.  Let’s ALL get out there and beautify our own gardens to show how proud we ALL are of our homes and entire “village”.  Take your dogs for walks – on a leash and equipped with a pooper-scooper of course!, it is the law – and look how residents have improved on their landscaping, pick up a few pointers, swap plants among friends and neighbors and enjoy the beautiful weather of Florida!  A small bag of “weed & feed” is NOT expensive!  Use it and be proud of your property, not embarrassed!  Make it a “family affair” and all go out and work together – mow the lawn, weed flower beds, trim trees and shrubs and rake up those leaves and pine needles.  Remember to apply to the board BEFORE removing trees.

Our Annual General Meeting was held as planned on March 7th at the Club House.  It was quite poorly attended, but the small crowd of representatives of 28 families that gathered (which included the Board of 9) had much to say about Woodland Terrace – NOT all bad!

The new Board was introduced.  For those of you who could not attend, the following is a list of Board members:  Bill Talbot (Acting President), Barbara Scott (Acting Vice president), Bill Wright (Treasurer/Secretary and Master Assoc. Rep.), Debbie Berlan, Kathi Fox, Caryn Greenspan, Ray Smith, Russell Maynard, and Lisa Yee (Board members).

Apart from the agenda where Bill Wright gave us a detailed explanation of the financial situation (so far so good!!), Russell Maynard explained the state of our roads (good too) and Barbara brought to the Board’s attention that the landscape contract was in need of reviewing as there seemed to be a lack of upkeep for our common areas, several items were brought up.

These included the “signs” (or LACK thereof) for the entrances into Woodland Terrace Trail.  It was unanimously decided to have these constructed by year’s end and the members in attendance proposed that the Board have full authority of the design (within reason, of course) and go ahead rather than delay decision-making by a house-to-house poll once again!  The current sign was eloquently described as “hideous” and had been in use LONG ENOUGH!

It was decided at this same meeting to have our annual “get-together” downscaled from last year to curb excessive expenses.  A Bar-B-Q was decided as an option and to probably hold it in one of the cul-de-sacs.  This will be discussed further at the next Board Meeting.  A date in April – Saturday 29th - has been proposed, but the final date will be announced.

A word of warning: Seminole County Police will soon be in force in the area as many of the residents have been complaining of speeding cars.  School buses are guilty of the same and this has been reported to the Seminole County School District, Transportation Department.  Three STOP signs at the three cul-de-sac entrances were suggested, to eliminate this behavior and slow down traffic.  Speed bumps were opposed by the majority.  Be sure NOT to park in close proximity to the STOP sign on the South entry of the Trail, while waiting for the school buses.  This is illegal and makes for hazardous driving when trying to enter and/or exit via that entryway.  The legal allowance is 30 feet from the STOP sign, but be sure to allow sufficient distance for a car or minivan to be able to pull up to the STOP safely.

Several residents have complained that neighbors are parking on their front lawns and breaking off the garden sprinkler heads is a worry.  Please be considerate of your neighbors and park in your OWN driveways.  Parking on the street also makes for hazardous conditions for the Emergency Vehicles trying to get in and out of the Trail.  There was a run on 911 (prank) calls to the area a couple of weeks ago, and they were hampered by the street parkers and had to zigzag through the parked cars.  School buses drive through the street during the week and with the bends in the road the driving conditions can be hazardous.  Please report any speeding buses to the Seminole County School District, Transportation Services at 407-320-7550.

We are very fortunate to have “nature on our doorstep” with Lake Lotus and Lake Lotus Park bordering our neighborhood.  Please, do not disturb our natural habitat, the Maitland extension has already destroyed many homes that belong to Rocky and his friends.  Preserve what is special to Country Creek that many other subdivisions could only dream of – the country!

If you have any thoughts, ideas, services to offer and comments to submit to this column, please call Debbie at 407-295-7098 or Caryn at 407-293-2987. Caryn would like to produce a directory of services offered by our residents, so please let her know what YOU have to offer.

Make this a WONDERFUL start to Spring!
