Around the corral   2002:

We were excited in 2002 that for the first time we had enough offspring of Asgard Silver Dollar to enter the Get-of-Sire classes which has always been a goal of ours. He did us proud by winning one class and a second in the other class with very stiff competition (only being beaten by the top Welsh sire in the country, Sleight of Hand). His 3 fillies went to 4 gold shows and came away with 8 first places, 8 second places, 2 Junior Championships and 8 Reserve Junior Championships. Two of his fillies were Southwest Regional Champion Section A filly and Reserve and his third filly came in fourth.  Silver Dollar himself was also Southwest Regional Champion Section A stallion.

Last year while judging the 2001 New England Welsh Pony Show I became enamored with a gorgeous bay Section A stud colt that I later found out was a grandson of our beloved Twinkling Super Star of Penrhyn. I inquired of his breeder as to whether there were any more like him “in the oven” and luckily the breeder had repeated the cross and allowed us to have first chance on the upcoming foal.  I was wishing for a filly, that would be bay and, of course, gorgeous. I got my wish!  The filly’s breeder, Tiz Benedict, reluctantly allowed us to purchase this incredible filly.  We are so pleased that we will be able to carry on the bloodlines of Super Star and believe this filly will have a very successful career in the show ring in addition to being a valuable broodmare in the future. The filly, named Severn Festive Spree will remain with Tiz during the winter and will be shown by Tiz on the East coast before she joins us out here on the West Coast in time to compete at the American Nationals in Tulsa this coming September. It was also most pleasing to hear that Spree’s full brother, Severn Cheers, was unanimous champion as a 2 year old at the New England Welsh Show this past year. It is always a joy to imagine what a foal will look like before he or she is born, anticipating greatness, and then to have your “vision” come true.

Around the corral   2001:

While there were not many Welsh shows on the West coast this year we attended the Pacific Coast Classic in Paso Robles in September with 4 entries, including 3 homebred ponies.   We showed two weanlings (SRW Silver Slippers and SRW Silver Jewel ) both sired by Asgard Silver Dollar.  Jewel won her class under both judges, Slippers was second and Jewel was reserve junior champion under both judges.  Our two year old filly sired by Edgehill Fair Santes-Helper won her class under both judges and was junior champion filly under both judges.  She was also reserve champion Section A under one of the judges.   Asgard Silver Dollar had a wonderful show and really wowed the crowd with his action.  He won his Section A stallion class under both judges and was champion Section A stallion.  He was also grand champion Section A under both judges, reserve supreme under one judge, supreme champion under the other judge and Best of Show under one of the judges.  The ponies winnings literally filled the back of our truck!
