Windridge Hounds

For twenty years prior, Bruce was in the Army and our family did a lot of traveling. When he got out, we retired here in Alabama where our three daughters had chosen to live. We are now located in Harvest, Alabama, which is just north of the Huntsville - Decatur area.
Our first introduction to dogs was when Bruce's parents bought and gave us our first dog in 1970 - a Collie male. Our second dog was a Shetland Sheepdog, bought as a show dog, but one that didn't turn out. Too late - we were hooked on showing! Our "Sheltie" went oversize, so we went back and bought Nicky, a blue merle and our first Champion - that was 1974.
We also had a tricolored bitch, sired by Nicky, showed her to a major and some minor points. We bred her and got some very pretty puppies, but Bruce was still in the Army at that time and got orders to go to Germany, so we were off again around the world.
We acquired our first Afghan in the 70's and Bruce trained and put a CD degree on him. He was such a love. WE showed some in conformation, but times were tough back then, plus he hated to show!. However, we met some of the most wonderful people by going to shows and that only served to reenforce our growing hobby.
In 1987, we got our first Rhodesian Ridgeback...... Bruce wanted "more of a dog". We went to look at a litter of puppies that we had been told about in Anderson, Indiana in December. That's where we got our wonderful Meghan. She hooked us on Ridgebacks. We lost her at 2 1/2 years of age, due to complications from a surgery - no one has ever taken her place in our hearts.
Ridgebacks are like potato chips - you can't have just one! We have been adding to our troop ever since and now we own 5 Ridgebacks and 2 Afghans.
We show our dogs in conformation, obedience and agility as we believe in a well rounded dog and a champion isn't a champion unless it has titles at both ends! Our dogs have been in the Top Ten in both Obedience and Agility.

We don't breed a litter very often and take great care to see that the ones we do place will only go to the very best homes we can find. Our dogs are family and live with us in the house and that's what we expect of the homes we are looking for our pups.
