A Work In Progress

Autism Awareness Ribbon

April is Autism Awareness Month in the United States
This ribbon is for my beautiful, loving autistic son and for the incredible folks who are helping learn & grow.

Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.

~ Herman Goering to Gustave Gilbert, Nuremberg trials, 1946

Welcome to my Work In Progress! My name is Willow. I am a stay at home Mama living in Montreal, and this is my getaway on the web. I hope you enjoy your visit.Weather in Montreal - Courtesy of The WeatherPixie - Click to Get Your Own!

A Work In Progress started as a place to post the homework for HTML and Paint Shop Pro courses I was taking at WebTech University. I am now a basic and advanced HTML instructor, and I'm pretty much settled into this site for good! Right now most of the site is given over to my Web Odyssey, the journey I began in the year 2000, teaching myself to write HTML from information I found on the web.

Over the past couple years I have learned a lot about designing web pages - about writing good code and making my pages accessible, about making graphics, about web standards and voluntary rating systems. I have also learned a bunch about staying safe on the net and about software that helps my computer run better.

I am slowly adding information about all these things to this web site so you can benefit from it too. Look for articles on such things as internet hoaxes and protection from computer viruses and spammers, and also tutorials on things like how to add a calling card to a guestbook entry, in My Writings.

If you'd like to see what will be expected of you if you sign up for a course at WebTech University - and of course, what you'll learn to do! - look for links to each course on my WebTech index page. As I said, I am an HTML instructor now, but I've left my homework on this site for you to see that I was a student myself not so very long ago!

Butterfly Bar

You can navigate through the pages of A Work In Progress by using the navigation buttons on the top of the left-hand border. These link to the major sections of the site, and newer pages will be linked to from these main pages. Please watch for links at the bottoms of pages too. Some of the articles are split up into several pages to make it easier for you to read them and find important references. The butterflies will take you from page to page within these articles!

Make yourself at home and browse through the various pages of my site! As the name suggests, the Work In Progress is constantly evolving. New additions can pop up without warning, so I hope you'll visit often. Anytime you want to find out what's new, please use the New button in the navigation menu - and please remember to reload or refresh the page if it's been a while since your last visit!

If you ever want to get in touch with me just to chat, to report a broken link, or to tell me what you think of the site you'll find my email and such on the Contact page. And if you've got a spare moment, please sign my Guestbook so I'll know you dropped by!

I am a member of the WebTech Internet Angels, a group of volunteers that help folks with their web pages and answer questions about all sorts of things like making graphics, ICQ, Geocities, and much more. I am also an HTML instructor at WebTech University. Please feel free to contact me if you need a little help getting started making your own web pages!

I also belong to WOSIB, Women of Strength & Inner Beauty. WOSIB is a delightful, supportive community of women online. We are stay at home moms and single ladies working outside the home, we are women who are very new to computers and the internet, and real experts who can make fancy graphics and web pages. We come from all nations and walks of life, and we represent all age groups, from teens to seniors.

Unlike many other communities, WOSIB is open to women who do not have a web site. And we don't require members to join our committees, although it is a good way of meeting folks and getting involved! I belong to the Judges Garden, where we give awards to deserving web pages. And I am the Head Angel. The ladies in my Garden (committee) send ecards to members to make them feel special, and we watch for members who need a little brightening up. When a WOSIB sister has a hard time at home or work, when she is under the weather, or when there is an illness or death in the family, the Angels are there to give her love and support. If you think you'd like to join WOSIB but you want to know more, please visit our website or give me a shout.
