HAPPY FACE SPIDER
The Happy Face Spider (Theridion grallator) looks happy so that
birds would not eat them. That's what scientist think but I think it's because
they live in Hawaii. Not all happy face spiders look alike, some vary in smiles,
frowns or even mad looks. The happy face spider is an endemic species in Hawaii.
The happy face spider body and legs are each 13mm long.
The “happy face” pattern is actually camouflage the back of the
abdomen. The color of this spider
is transparent green/yellow with various red and back patterns. This little spider feeds on small insects that land on their
roof of the leaf. This spiders can
be found undersides of large leaves in native Hawaiian rainforests and in
Honuliuli Preserve.
