Key Points |
Methods (30 min) |
|
Use ppt to demonstrate unsafe situations
Use note cards to keep the students actively engaged
Try and get the students to use there imagination to think of some worst case scenarios, so that the students will be able to see accidents before they happen. Allow the students to discuss ways to be more safe in each situation.
Make sure to include every student so that everyone is paying attention
|
Key Points |
Methods (5-10 min) |
The students will be asked to each pull out a sheet of paper and think of ways to make your life safer. List (a minimum of 3) things that could be potential accidents and a way to prevent each one. |
Have students pull out paper and list accidents and solutions for each.
Have students keep the paper to help with the quiz and turn both in together with the paper as a bonus +10 pts. If the answers are legit.

Key Points |
Methods (7 min) |
The students will turn there papers over, label the top of the back “Safety Quiz” and number the paper 1-5. Show a new picture and have them write what they see as far as “unsafe” activities, and a solution for each.

Lesson Plan Discussion Paper
The lesson that I will be teaching will be on demonstrating knowledge of personal and mechanical safety practices in the workplace. I will be teaching the lesson at Bellville High School. Safety is very important no matter what you are doing or what you already know. High school agriculture education is a very good time to teach a lesson like this because the students will carry these skills throughout there lives no matter what they do or where they go in life.
My lesson will start out with me passing out band-aids to all the students. This should get there curiosity up and my following questions will get them motivated. After the band-aids are passed out I will ask the students if they can tell me what they have. I expect that most if not all of the students will know what a band-aid is, and then I’ll ask what is it used for. I will use questions to lead into the fact that accidents do happen and we need to recognize the dangers so that we can avoid injury. Once the students realize what we will be learning about I will present the objectives in an overview, so that the students have an idea about what they are expected to learn for the day.
In the presentation I will pass out a note card to each student and they will use the note card to tell whether or not the picture is safe or unsafe. Depending on how the students are doing I might ask for volunteers to come up to the board and point out different safety hazards. I would then have the class tell what they would do to prevent the accident. If the students are not focused on the lesson I will ask them to get out a sheet of paper and write down the hazard and the solution to each of the safety hazards that we point out. The “take-home” message is to show the students that they need to always be looking out for potential safety hazards. The note cards will have a green “safe” written on one side and an “unsafe” written in red on the other side. This should take around thirty minutes.
After we finish with the pictures I will have the students make a list of things that they could do make there lives safer (a minimum of 3). If the students are collaborating they may break into partners, if there are an even number of students in the classroom. This activity should take only a few minutes maybe five or ten minutes. As they are doing this I will walk around and make sure that they are on task and giving a descent effort. If there is time we will share our ideas with the class, to maybe give the students different peer perspectives.
I will be keeping my eye on the clock and when there is about seven minutes left in class I will give them a quiz. The quiz will be another picture that they will need to point out a couple of safety hazards and ways to prevent them. If time permits they should be able to write two safety hazards, but if we have enough time I will have them put down five safety hazards and ways to prevent each.
How will this assignment benefit you later as a professional AGSC teacher?
