About Me

My name is Adrian Choo and I am a graduate of the University of Wollongong. I major in Computer Science. I am currently working as a System Administrator at ShareInvestor Pte Ltd in Singapore.

I am a Christian. I believe that Jesus came to earth to die for me and save me from my sins. I am currently worshipping at St Hilda's Church in Singapore.

I spend most of my free time programming and reading about computers. When I am not at my computers, I do spend time with some younger people who are studying about computers and offer them my help and guidance or I wil be somewhere out there playing the guitar. I am particularly fond of learning new programming languages and how to play new musical instruments.

The rest of the stuff is seperated into 2 areas: Computers and Music. That's all I ever was interested in.

Computers

I am able to program in the following languages:

  • Java
  • Perl
  • Bash
  • C
  • PHP
  • SQL
  • FORTRAN 77
  • Common LISP
  • C++

I am interested in the following areas:

Code Optimization and Code Security
This is my primary area of interest. A lot of people are particularly bad in writing code that is efficient but yet at the same time readable (no offence to all). That is why code optimization is so important. I had my "first job" when I was studying at Temasek Polytechnic Singapore. I was learning Java (my first programming language) at that time and when I wrote code, it was particularly slow in running and I asked my lecturer why. He told me about code optimization then. That was how I started. I am also a fan of the Literate style of Programming by Don Knuth. Visit his web site here.

Computer / Network Security
This is my secondary area of interest. Not much to be said here except that both these areas are very important in the computing world right now and will continue to be.

Systems Administration / Networking
I am a firm believer in the saying that "The network is the computer." Unix and its variants are my main interest in this area even though I am still learning about them. Even though I am an MCSE, I think that the Unix way of doing things is still much better. The second thing I like to do in this area would be programming Networked Applications.

Others
My other areas of interests would include Compilers and Parallel Computing, both of which I have only a vague idea of what they are about. I would love to spend time reading about these things when I have the time to.

Music

I have been fond of music since I was a child. I can play the guitar (my primary instrument), the bass, the keyboards and the drums. I like listening to mostly rock and bluesy music. A little jazz and ballads on the side lines too.

I have had two lovely students. En Hui and Vivien.

The only teacher I ever will have who taught me much about the guitar then I could learn. Francis. You've been like a father to me and accepted me for who I was even though I was a really bad player when I came to you.
