As you can see from these pictures, quite a lot
has changed in 30 years! I was born in the heartland--Wichita, Kansas--in the 60s
(December '69, hehe). I grew up with my mom and two younger sisters--Kimmy and
Laurie. My sisters are twins, and we grew very close after all the fighting ended at
about age 16! We moved from place to place, and I spent most of
my childhood growing up in Arizona. We lived in a small border town (still trying to
figure out what "pinche weto" means), and moved to Tucson when I was 16. I
went to a great high school that really steered me in the right direction for college.
I studied my butt off and flew to New York City in September 1988 to start a BS at Columbia University.
Those four years at Columbia were the best in my life, and I
met friends that I will have forever (see "Old Gang"
and "More Columbia Crowd"). I did an
undergraduate degree in engineering, which helped me land an Internship at Intel in
Phoenix after my Junior year in 1991, just before the Intel Inside campaign was thought
of!
Senior year at Columbia was fantastic and will forever go down
in history as "the year I came out of my shell." Friends like Franklin Baez, Dave Dube, and Marina Olshansky paved the way to one
party-filled Senior year. I had a beautiful girlfriend--Yzabel--who
was from Paris. We all really lived New York to the fullest, and the end of Senior
year was a sad turning point, but the future was to hold some great fun and opportunities
as well.
Towards the end of Senior year at Columbia, I got my
acceptance letter from Stanford. It was my #1
choice for graduate school, so I didn't care that MIT and Harvard flat-out rejected
me! In the Fall of '92, I was on my way to sunny California for an MS degree in
Engineering Management. This was a one-year graduate program, and it also turned out
to be a lot of fun.
As luck would have it, plenty of friends also moved to the Bay
Area, including Franklin Baez and Vic
Wykoff. Vic and I were roommates for years in Palo Alto. We met tons of
fun people at Stanford, including the infamous Rob Wilkinson, Carleen Maitland, and Nina
Mundt Fussing! Stanford was great, but you don't meet as many friends as you do in
four years of undergrad. Still had a blast, and really had a great experience
there.
After graduating from Stanford in1994, In did Internships at
Intel in Sales and Marketing, and stayed on at the company in various Marketing positions.
And guess what--I'm still at Intel, 6 years later! In have had great
opportunities to travel the world, and am currently on a two-three year assignment in
Munich.
My Intel days in California were a lot of fun, because I met
the "California Crowd" and trusty old friends
like Rob Mcalister, Hemali Naik,
John Phillips, and Dee
Dee Scott. I discovered my passion for wine,
and have since never looked back. The California years also saw the legendary 224
Churchill group house, a magnificent place in downtown Palo Alto with a swimming pool, hot
tub, garden, yard, and great roomies. Many parties, dinners, and general fun there.
Also in California, I had a wonderful girlfriend, Charlotte,
whom I will forever remember as the sweetest person I ever met in my life!
So now I sit here in Munich, enjoying life as usual. Living in Europe allows you to travel to so many
amazing places, and I am taking full advantage!
Stop by for a visit sometime, I have a lot more stories to
tell... |
