Concetta Tomei was born December 30th, 1945 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She enrolled at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She gained entrance to the prestigious Goodman School of Drama in Chicago, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts 3 years later in 1975.
She appeared in many repertory theater classics as "A Streetcar Named Desire" as Blanche DuBois, "Candida" and "Blithe Spirit". She moved to New York were she received critical acclaim on Broadway in "The Elephant Man" as Mrs. Kendal, a role she reprised while touring with David Bowie in 1981. Concetta, has related to me that she actually worked with 5 different leading men while doing "The Elephant Man."

She appeared in many others as well as "Richard III" with Kevin Kline for which she won the St. Clair Baysfield Shakespeare Award for her performance as Queen Elizabeth.
Her most recent performance was in Oliver Stone's production of Mrs. Warren's Profession in 1997.

After relocating to Los Angeles, Concetta began a prolific tv career. It included guest spots on many made for TV movies. A recurring role on Falcon Crest and Max Headroom. Then came the role of roles in my opinion. Playing Major Lila Garreau in China Beach. Her hard exterior, yet warm mother-like concern for all at China Beach was portrayed with bingo precision! How this wonderful actress was overlooked for an Emmy is beyond me. I know Concetta considers playing Lila Garreau one of her favorite roles.
After China Beach was cancelled Concetta got a starring role in a family film called "The Goodbye Bird." Unfortunately, her film appearances since have been little more than cameos. This star is deserving of some co-starring roles!
Like many Hollywood stars including ex-China Beach co-star Megan Gallagher, Concetta devotes a lot of her free time working for animal rights.
