Mary Fish 24 (20 single woman) House servant Prot both Exeter, came 3 June 1841 on the Duchess Of Northumberlan
Believed to be an ancestor of who wrote on Monday, 13 October, 2008
Hi Elizabeth, Do you really thing the name is Fish???
If it is then I think I may have found the record of my gr gr gr grandmother. She was born two miles outside of Exeter, so the fact that the ships manifest says Exeter is another +. Mary may have married Henry Dunsford a seaman ,later to become a captain. They lived in Sydney, I cannot find a record of them marrying here in England or in Australia, but if that is my Mary then it would not have been in England. They had three children, Henry Frederick in 1845, Sophia Louisa in 1846 and then somewhere on the way home to England I think Fanny Nelson P born at sea. Mary then turns up on the 1851 census living in the place she was born and down as a Captains wife. Henry having been Captain of the Elizabeth Jane and the Jane Cain and the Enmore and back to the Jane Cain. Fanny's baptism record also has her Father Henry down as Master of the goodship Jane Cane.(different spelling).
However Henry seems to have either never married Mary or bigamously married a Caroline Sarah Litten in 1854 in Geelong, Victoria. I just never knew how Mary got there, whether she came with Henry or made her own way. If this is her then I know at last. The ship I believe was a East India Company ship and this being so, it's also possible Henry was a mate on this ship as he worked for the East India company, so maybe they met on board, who knows? I hope that gives you a little incite into Mary and Henry and thank you for all your hard work you have done in transcribing the lists.
Do you think it says Fish? thanks Trevena
