They came by ship - British Immigrants who arrived 1841

Middlesex

arrived 1 Oct 1841, barque 563 tons, Salmon master, from London and Plymouth 9 June 1841 to Port Phillip
Recapitulation, Protestants 47. Roman Catholics 172, 219 souls, Single males 49, single females 58, families 108
Passengers Mr and Mrs Stevens (October 5, 1841, Page 2, top left column, The Port Phillip Herald). Victorian shipping record shows 10 male adults and 2 female adults paid their own fares, 2 males and 2 females were born, 2 female adults and 1 female infant died.

The Middlesex mastered by John Salmon, was a wooden barque of 418 tons built at Sunderland in 1839, owned by Duncan Dunbar and Co. The vessel arrived with 219 passengers. There were four births (including Elizabeth and James Gorey's son Michael) and four deaths on the passage.
14 family members including Ann Gorrey came on the Middlesex

Neptune

arrived 28 Mar 1841, 611 tons WJ Ferris mastership from London via Plymouth 12 Dec 1840 to Melbourne Agents Messrs Thomas Enscor & James
Passengers Mr and Mrs Buckland, 3 dau and 1 son, Mr and Mrs Garde and 2 chn, Madame Pelite and child, Messrs W and J Foster, Whittey, Duenlin/Duerden, Perrott and Dr Kinglake/Kinlake, 21 Intermediate and 271 steerage under superintence of Dr Brown.

The Recapitulation is very neat - graphs trades and sex/status/age
Families have 3 Smiths, 3 Shepherds, 3 Carpenters and 28 Agricultural Labourers, equal numbers of male and female adults.
Children are grouped in their father's trade, 1 aged 15-18, 7m and 4f aged 7-15, 6m and 7f aged 1-7, 1m and 4f under a year, 104 souls, 1596 pounds Bounty
76 Single men - 67 agricultural labourers, 3 carpenters and 6 shepherds total 1444 pounds bounty
73 single women - 8 Dairymaids, 53 Housemaids, 7 Laundresses and 5 nurses - 1387 pounds Bounty
87 Protestants and 166 Roman Catholics, total 253. These figures do not include the other 57 names on the Victorian list.
Staff included - Doctor John Brown, Crew Thomas Cresey, TJ Duggan, Alexander Mackay.

Port Phillip Herald 9 Apr 1841 reports the Cargo included a Durham bull aged 18 months which was sold for 120 pounds, The imported cow was bought in by the owners for 6 pounds 10 shillings

Nimrod

arrived 26 Jan 1841, ship 469 tons, Capt Manning master, from Liverpool 13 Oct 1840 to Melbourne
Passengers Mr and Mrs Leech and son, Dr and Miss Fullarton, Mr Armitage and Mr Exton, 34 in Intermediate and 21 in steerage. Extensive cargo list includes soap, spades, cheeses, herrings, hams, various ordered lists of goods.

17 Feb - arrived 16 Feb, Nimrod, ship, Manning, 500 tons, from Liverpool on 13 Oct, Pass Mr and Mrs (inside crease) Miss Fullerton, Mr Armitage and 34 intermediate and 21 in steerage, Mr West died 22 Jan 1841, Mrs Margaret West and 4 chn
10 March Nimrod arrived in Sydney left PP on 4th.
No Passenger list among the Bounty - Assisted Immigration records

March 1, cleared for Sydney, passengers Lieut Tollervey, Dr Lynch, Dr Fullarton, Miss Fullarton, Mr and Mrs Leich and child, Mr and Mrs Bourne, Messrs Armytage, Exton, M'Leod, Wiggin and Herrist, and 20 in steerage, with part of her original cargo
1 Mar 1841 departed for Sydney

Nimrod arrived Sydney 10 March 1841, from Port Phillip on 4 March, with sundries. Passengers Capt Tollervey RN, Dr Fullerton and Miss Fullerton, Mr and Mrs Leitch/Latch and son, Mr JJ Armitage, Mr J Eaton, Mr D McLeod, Mr F Weagan/Wegan, Dr Lynch, Mr Elliott Herriott, Mr and Mrs Bourne, Mr Smith, and 6 Intermediate.

Platina

arrived 12 Jan from New Zealand, barque 320 tons, Wycherly/Chrichley master. Cargo of sawn timber for Thomas, Enscoe and James, 170 oars, 100 broken deals for Wycherby.
Passengers incl David Pettavel, Mr James, Mr Leadhart source - Free Press and Commecial Journal

cleared May 15 for London, Passengers Mrs Le Soaff and servant, Mrs Mattison, Mr Brodie, and 2 sons, Messrs Charles Binny, James Brown, and John Milner, and 4 in steerage

Rookery

arrived unknown, barque, 311 tons, Bourne master,

6 March 1841 cleared for London. Passengers Doctor Cotter, lady and family, Mrs Watts and child, Mrs Bourne, Messrs Howard, Pullar, Porter, Mountiford, Dunlop, and Perry. Cargo 1051 bales wool

Royal Saxon

arrived 17 July 1841, barque 510 tons, Captain Lodge master, from London 1 Mar 1841 then Cork 19 March to Melbourne
Passengers Cabin Mrs Heywards and 4 chn, Rev Mr Richardson, lady and child, Mr and Mrs Eirey and child, Miss M'Gregor, Miss Gavin, Messrs Fripp, and Wilson. Intermediate Messrs Dickens, and Miller, 246 Bounty emigrants under superintendance of Dr Perrier

Cabin passengers - 4m, 5f and 7chn, Intermediate 2m, Steerage 10m, 4f and 5chn
The Recapitulation lists the total of 223 as Families 31 male, 32 female, 5m and 2f over 7, 5m and 2f over 1, 11m and 2f infants, total 83, also - from England (Oxfordshire 3, London 6, Kent 10, Staffordshire 1 and 3 from ?, total 17), Scotland none and Ireland lists 14 places for 206 people. There are 39 Protestants, 131 Roman Catholics and 3 'Other beliefs'
There are 68 single males - 5 shepherds, 3 carpenters and 62 Agricultural labourers,
72 single women - 1 weeds, 5 Cook or Laundress, 10 Dairy maids and rest are House maids.
The barque Royal Saxon sailed from Cork on 19 March 1841 bound for the Colony of NSW as Bounty Passengers for JB Were Esq who received 3962 pounds for his consignment of 231 immigrants, 17 from England and the rest from Ireland, including 22 from Limerick and the largest group of 73 whose Native Place was Tipperary.

arrived 29 Dec 1841, brig, 169 tons, Simpson master, from London Aug 5. Passengers Lieut and Mrs Mallard, Master Wallard and 2 chn, Miss Eldridge and Master Hughes, 2 in Steerage

Salsette

arrived 2 Jan 1841, barque 422 tons, Capt E Purss, from Liverpool 10 Aug 1840 to Port Phillip
Port Phillip 15 Jan 1841 Commercial Journal and Advertiser, 1840 The Salsette, barque, master Parss, 412 tons, arrived 2nd Jan from Liverpool which left 10 Aug with 190 Bounty emigrants. Passengers Dr Lynch, Mr Ashhurst, Mr and Mrs King and 2 chn, Mr and Mrs McKelvy and 9 in the steerage

Robinson family - parents Bounty pounds 19 ea, Ruth 18 also 19, sons aged 16 and 15, 15 ea, Margt, Elizabeth and Benjamin 5 ea, other 4, 10 ea, total 142 pounds
Vol. 3 has the following -
SALSETTE, barque, 420t, Capt. Edw. PURSSE: Liverpool, 11.8.40 - Melbourne, 2.1.41 with 190 migrants, 14 of whom died of typhoid, but ship cleared & entire crew absconded before serious situation was realized & quarantine could be imposed; & epidemic spread to Melbourne: + Account, "Perilous Voyages to the New Land," M.
