On the front page of my Pioneers site I have some links. Try Tasmanian Departures Asquith came to Vic in 1846 - Mrs and 4 chn left Hobart 31 Aug 1846 for Port Phillip, on the Julia, as Immigrants. From the Hobart Courier, the brig Julia, 135 tons, arrived 26 Aug from Port Phillip with sheep, and Cabin passeners Mr Chales Hall and Mr Merrick. The paper dated Sat 5 Sep 1846 records the Julia sailed 1 Sep for Port Phillip with emigrants. The list of cargo includes 20,000 feet timber, 50,000 shingles, 5000 lathes and other items for D McPherson, 3000 staves for FA Downing Also for the early days may be the Launceston Courier which starts in 1840 and includes shipping to Portland Bay.

Christian Asquith (see image 28, Convict Conduct register), was tried 12 Apr 1830 at Middlesex arrived in Tasmania 1 Dec 1820 on the Maria, which left Portsmouth 10 Aug 1820 Susan Smith married Christian Asquith on 8/9/1828. She was transported on Brothers, in 1824 and I believe she met Christian in gaol in Hobart . They had a child out of wedlock and before their release (1828?) His name was James. Susan was often called Susannah by Christian and it seemed to stick. C died in 1857 aged 57 and Susannah (Susan b. 1800) at 101 in NZ. And she had 14 children, her first 2 dying in infancy. Their son George came to NZ and my mother was his eldest daughter.
