Maria Abbot 18 (1 single woman) House Servant RC reads Tipperary, came 12 Dec 1841 on the Brankinmoor
Maria Carden Abbott was born at 'Jockey Hall' which was about half a mile south of Templemore,
and on maps of the area the Jockey Hall site was surrounded by a 30 acre area of land.
Maria's mother, Elizabeth Carden and her father William Abbot were probably ostracised by members of the other Carden Families, who all lived in and around the area of Templemore, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. Maria was a Catholic and her Catholic religion would have been intolerable and unacceptable to them, as the families of Carden did not appear to recognise a Catholic marriage as legitimate. (It is unknown when this family took on the Catholic faith, it could possibly have been with either her parents or her grand-father.)

His Honor William. A'Beckett - Abeckett Directory 1847 Resident Judge, Her Majesty's Judges Page 91, 22nd March, 1847.,
William A'Beckett (1806-1869), chief justice, was born on 28 July 1806 in London, eldest son of William à Beckett, solicitor, and his wife Sarah, née Abbott. On 1 October 1832 at St Pancras, London, he married Emily, daughter of Edward Hayley who was his first cousin. Possibly because of lack of success at the Bar à Beckett migrated with his wife and three sons, Willie (William Arthur Callendar, known by his initials as W. A. C.), who was three when they left London, Malwyn, just two years old, and the baby Edward. his mother-in-law and two more of her daughters, and in May 1837 in the City of Edinburgh arrived at Sydney, where Emily à Beckett died on 1 June 1841, not long after the birth of their fourth son Reginald. They went to Port Phillip in 1846, with their father and Emily's mother and sisters. On 30 October 1849 à Beckett married Matilda Hayley, the youngest of the family. This marriage to a deceased wife's sister would have been void in England under Lord Lyndhurst's Act of 1835, but Acts of the British parliament passed after 1828 did not apply in New South Wales and the marriage was therefore 'voidable only by sentence of an Ecclesiastical Court'.
Soon after the new state of Victoria was created in 1851 à Beckett was appointed first Chief Justice of its Supreme Court. A year later, having lobbied shamelessly for the honour, he became the first Victorian colonist to win a knighthood.
