In general the Värttinä members are working in different projects
and I mention here just some of their activities.
SUSAN AHO
voice She joined in 1997 and played accordion on the Vihma album. Moved to the singers line in 1998. She is (was) also playing and singing with Metsänväki ,duo Rotunaiset and Vaeltajat. Susan is in the Master degree project (accordion) in the SibeliusAcademy |
MARI
KAASINEN voice Mari -an original member from Rääkkylä- has other activities too , e.g. teaching , released a Christmas-album, and is involved also in the Master degree programme (singing) of Sibelius. |

JOHANNA
VIRTANEN voice. Replacing Riikka Timonen in March 2001, Johanna studied folk music at the Central Ostrobothnian Conservatory in Kokkola and also plays harmonium, kantele and two-row accordion.She is in the Master degree project in Sibelius (singing) |
JANNE
LAPPALAINEN bouzouki, saxes Janne is the only original instrumentalist from Rääkkylä and playing in other groups too eg.Progmatics and Ottopasuuna. |

MARKKU
LEPISTÖ accordion Markku, joined Värttinä in 1998, working also in Progmatics, and Doina Klezmer.He is a teacher in the Sibelius Academy and has the Master of Music degree. Released his solo album "Silta". |
LASSI
LOGREN fiddle Fiddler in Värttinä, from 1985-1989, rejoined the band in 2002.Lassi graduated Sibelius Academy, where he has the Master of Music degree.He has made a book/CD "Harmony Parts for Finnish Fiddle" |

LUKKARINEN drums,percussion He has a strong jazz background as studied music in the Helsinki Jazz Conservatory and in the Sibelius Academy.He is/was playing in ToriKvartetti ,Turbine and Soul Captain Band He is playing on Finnish handmade KUMU drums |
HANNU RANTANEN basses Hannu Rantanen is one of Finland's top bassists. Having studied and now teaching at Helsinki Pop Jazz Conservatory.Hannu has been involved with numerous top Finnish outfits including UMO Big Band, Pepa Päivinen Trio, Raoul Björkenheim Triad, Avanti and Unto Tango Orchestra. |

ANTTO
VARILO guitars Antto joined Värttinä in 1994 and played earlier with numerous jazz and world-music artists like Hasse Walli, Badu N'Djay and the Porvoo Big Band. |

KIRSI
KÄHKÖNEN voice Kirsi , was an original Värttinä member from Rääkkylä and singing in the group since 1983 but departed in 2002. She was writing more lyrics on the recent albums and hopefuly continues this work. |
PEKKA
LEHTI basses He is from Karelia too, but from Joensuu.Joined Värttinä in 1994. Pekka is a well-known Jazz bassist and played on several albums e.g. with JP Virtanen and in ZetaBoo. He is a teacher in Sibelius and released his solo album "Outo Voima". |

KARI REIMAN
fiddle He is a member since 1989, with a long experience in diff. bluegrass and folk groups, playing on banjo and guitars too , also in the group Ottopasuuna.Left the band in 2002 but continues writing music. |
SIRPA
REIMAN voice She was a member since 1989 but leaved the group in 1999 to spend more time with her children. Fortunately she stay a lyricist of the band. |

SARI KAASINEN voice She was the founder of Varttina but left the band after the Kokko album as she returned to Rääkkylä with her family. Returned but not retired, as she is involved in different projects and released two solo album. |
RIITTA
KOSSI accordion She played on four album from OiDai to Kokko. Recently she is playing in HelsinginKaksrivisnaiset with Maria Kalaniemi and also on the "Outo Voima" album of Pekka Lehti. She has the Master of Music degree. |

RIIKKA
TIMONEN voice She replaced Sirpa Reiman in 1999 and sang on "Ilmatar" Riikka studying music in Helsinki and Graz, working in different projects incl. Karl Jenkins' famous Adiemus. |
MARKO TIMONEN drums,percussion Marko is a well appreciated Jazz player with awards, and played on different albums, e.g. in Poppoo. He joined Värttinä in 1995, but also performs in other groups like ZetaBoo and the IsmoAlankoSäätiö. |

PHILLIP
PAGE manager He moved from Texas to Finland because his interest in Finnish music in the mid. eighties. Nowadays "he is" the Hoedown management company and involved in Digelius too. |
