Rappahannock Range Lights

Located in the Chesapeake Bay near Silver Beach
in Northampton County on the Eastern Shore.

[Rappahannock Range Rear Light]

Built in 1991, these range lights mark the southeastern end of the Rappahannock Shoal Channel in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. The front light is a simple 33-foot modern beacon. The rear light is near the shore and is a modern tower (aprrox. 230-ft high) built on a caisson. The actual marker at the southeastern opening is a red and white marker labeled "CB" (for Chesapeake Bay). At the northwestern opening is a red and white marker labeled "RP" (for Rappahannock). This channel helps vessels steer clear of dangerous areas near Tangier Island.

HOW TO SEE IT
If you don't have access to a boat, the rear range light can be viewed from Silver Beach.
