VA-LHS: Virginia Lighthouses

The Commonwealth of Virginia has lighthouses located both on land and in open water. Since most are not open to the public this site provides a means to visit these historical icons. There is also a remarkable history of past lighthouses. Most of these were located in the rivers leading into the Chesapeake Bay and are mentioned here as well.
This site has been recently updated with photographs provided, and used with permission, by the U.S. Coast Guard.
You can take a tour of this site by clicking on the appropriate link below (under the lighthouses list), and then follow the RED signs at the end of each page. GREEN signs return you to this page.

NOTICES:

LH Photography by Phil Payette, or LCDR Richard Condit (USCG), unless noted otherwise. This web site was created and is maintained exclusively by Phil Payette (a former member of the Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society). It is not affiliated with the federal or state governments or any organizations in any way. The CCUSLHS only provides the transportation to get to several lights on their wonderful trips every summer. Without them and the cooperation of Coast Guard this website would never be complete.

This site has been listed in "Around Virginia" on the official web site of the Commonwealth of Virginia (see travel and tourism).
