UPLBAA of America Donates Equipment and Books

        The University of the Philippines at Los Banos Alumni Association of America (UPLBAA-America) donated a personal computer, a digital camera and a computer hub worth $1,560.00 to the UP Los Banos Office of Public and Alumni Affairs (OPAA). These equipment will be used to make more efficient communications and networking with the alumni and also monitor and provide materials for use in the alumni website and database.

        UPLBAA-America raised the amount for the equipment through the Loyalty Day - Dinner Dance fundraiser affair held last October 10, 2000. The donation was chanelled through UPLBAA with Mr. Levy Perez (BSA '60) turning over the check during last year's Loyalty Day Convocation Program. The official turn over ceremony of the donation was held last March 1, 2001 during the UPLBAA Governing Board meeting. Signatories of the deed of donation were Dr. Leodegario M. Ilag, president of UPLBAA and Dr. Madeline M. Suva, director of OPAA.

        UPLBAA-America also donated four balikbayan boxes of books to the UPLB Library. The books were procured by Pete and Boots Mayol and with the help of Levy and Lita Perez the books were prepared for shipment. Frank and Rory Mamaril, Lourdes Ledesma, Johnny and Cely Abilay, and Pan and Julie Belo provided the funds for the shipment via LBC.

UPLBAA-America Sets Grand Reunion-Loyalty Day Ball and Induction of 2001-2003 Officers

        The University of the Philippines At Los Banos Alumni Association of America (UPLBAA-America) will have its Grand Reunion-Loyalty Ball and Third Induction of Officers on October 6, 2001, Saturday at the Ramda Inn, 1217 Wildwood Ave., Sunnyvale, California. Proceeds from the affair will go to the association's funds for donation to purchase equipment and supplies for the UP Los Banos Health Services (Infirmary), and to the UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, the Volunteer service program of UP Los Banos.

        UPLBAA-America membership is open to all UP Los Banos Alumni in the USA and Canada. All UPLB alumni, family and friends are cordially invited to a memorable evening of camaraderie, reminiscing college memories and fun for a worthy cause. No-host cocktails start at 6:00 p.m. and the dinner shall be served by 7:00 p.m. Donations for this prime rib dinner-dance affair is $40.00 per person. Suggested attire is Filipino or semi-formal. Music will be provided by Ernie Pineda's (BSA, '61) "Danceable Music."

        The affair will be highlighted by a short presentation entitled "Helping Our Motherland" by Dr. Joel Cuello (BSAE, '84; cum laude). Dr. Cuello currently an Associate Professor of Agricutural and Biosystem Engineering at University of Arizona and is listed in Who's Who in America since 1999. Dr. Cuello's presentationwill be followed by the induction of the 2001-2003 officers and presentation of plaques to lifetime members of UPLBAA-America.

        Most of the 1999-2001 officers were re-elected for another two-year term at the

June 301, 2001 general meeting and picnic held at Gull Park, Foster City, California. The 2001-2003 officers are: President - Johnny Abilay (BSA, '58); Vice President - Lourdes Erni-Ledesma (BSA, '59); Secretary - Rosalina Abalos-Derro (BSHT, '61); Treasurer - Julieta Ovejera-Belo (BSA, '59); Auditor - Conrad Landicho (BS Agri Bus, '83); PRO - Siegfred Aseo (BS Bio, '91); Board of Directors - Loreto Oliva ('60), Terry Mendoza (BSA, '55), Ramon Cruz, Jr. ('59), Levy Perez (BSA, '60), Sergio Aragones (BSA, '61), Panfilo Belo (BSST, '63), and Rick Velasco (BSF, '69). Area Coordinators nominated and appointed by the Board of Directors are: Mr.&Mrs. Gil Oloresisimo (Southern Califonia), Mr.&Mrs. Ernie Tremor (Northern California, East Bay), Dr. Joel Cuello (Arizona), and Dr. Ernie Lucas (Hawaii).


 

UPLBAA-America Launches Website

        It is official. The UPLBAA-America has just entered the wired world of the web. Our sincere thanks to Sieg (BS Bio '91) and Rowena (BS Bio, '90) Aseo for creating and maintaining our website, www.uplbaa.org. The website provides infomation on the organization as well as news stories on relevant UPLB & UP issues. We invite you to visit the website and give us your comments or provide us with items that can be incorporated in the website.


HIGHLIGHTS, YEAR 2000

        Consistent with its objectives, the year 2000 was a busy and productive year for the University of the Philippines at Los Banos Alumni Association of America (UPLBAA-America). Through the initiative, creative imagination, hardwork, outstanding cooperation and strong support from its officers, members, friends and donors, the UPLBAA-America modestly achieved the following during the year 2000:

  • Succsesfully held four Executive and three General Membership meetings.

  • Drafted and ratified its Constitution and By0Laws. UPLBAA-America is open to all UPLB Alumni in the USA and Canada.

  • Launched its website, www.uplbaaa.org. We are grateful to Sieg and Rowena Aseo for creating the website and for donating its fee for two years.

  • Obtained Certificate of Accreditation from the main UP Alumni Chapter, recognizing UPLBAA-America as one of the official and active UP alumni chapters in the world.

  • Tripled its number of lifetime members from 12 at the end of 1999 to 36 in 2000. As of October 1, 2001, we have a total of 46 lifetime members. All UPLB graduates in the USA and Canada are respectfully invited to be Liftime members of UPLBAA-America.

  • Donated four balikbayan boxes of books to the UPLB Library. We sincerely thank Dr.& Mrs. Pete Mayol for procuring the books; Levy & Lita Perez for helping prepare their shipment and Dr.& Mrs.Frank Mamaril, Mrs. Lourdes Ledesma, Drs. Pan & Julie Belo, and Dr.& Mrs. Jonny Abilay for donating the money for the shipment of the books.

  • Donated $1,560.00 to UPLB Office of Public and Alumni Affairs for the purchase of a personal computer, a digital camera and a computer hub to handle UPLB Alumni Database, communications and other related matters.

        We are looking forward to your continued and generous support to UPLBAA-America's projects in the years ahead. We will be all together in these projects because they are for all of us and our beloved Alma Mater.
