The Giver By: Lois Lowery

The Giver is a wonderful story. It is about a boy named Jonas. Jonas lives in a special community. The weather, your jobs, and even who you marry is controlled in Jonas' community. Each family has a girl and a boy child, their children are named before they get them. They do not know the meaning of love. At age twelve there is a ceremony for the children of the community. At this ceremony each child is given it's occupation. Jonas is given a very rare and unusual job. Then he is faced with a very difficult choice, should he abandon the only life he has ever known for the real world? Will he ever get to live and love? Why don't you find out. By: Kristen Miraglia

The Light on Hogback Hill By: Cynthia DeFelice

The Light on Hogback Hill is a astounding story. It is about two children named Hadley and Josh. Josh was a new boy in town and didn't know anything about the town. He met Hadley at school and they became friends. Soon Hadley was telling him all about a weird house on the top of a hill deserted from the whole town. Hadley and Josh went to see a man named Angus. Angus seemed to know everything about this so called witch who lived on the hill. He said that the witch turned everyone who went up there into black cats and had a heart of stone. On Halloween night Hadley and Josh went up to Hogback Hill to see if this was all true. You decide, was it true or wasn't it. By: Lauren Miraglia

Ella Enchanted By: Gail Carson Levine

This is a wonderful book about a girl named Ella. When Ella was a baby she was given the gift of obediance. If someone asked her to do something, she would have to do it. Even if someone asked her to jump off a bridge. She would have to do it! Her mother died. And at her funeral Ella meets a boy named Prince Char. As she searches for the fairy that gave her the gift/curse, Ella runs into some trouble with some fairy tale creatures. If you like fairy tales, this is the book for you. Reviewed by: Carin Smith

Esperanza Rising

Esperanza Rising is a phenomenal book about a girl named Esperanza who has it all. Fancy dolls, servants, and loads of money. Fact is Esperanza's Dad is a very rich rancher. One day her father dies after getting attacked by bandits. She then is forced to flee from Mexico to escape her cruel uncle. Worse she has to leave her beloved Grandmother behind. She then takes up life in a California labor farm. She then is forced to take up work to pay her ailing mothers hospital bills. Will Esperanza's mother survive?
