Mount Arrarat after the flood; God's covenant with creation.

When I was saved I learned this was the wrong way to look for confirmation of GOD's existence. It's in the heart not the head. We walk by faith in JESUS, GOD Allmighty, and the Word as written in the bible. I believe in Jesus, asked him for forgiveness of my sins, and to come into my life and save me. He did and changed my life. Thank you Jesus, I'll spread the good news, JESUS came to this world to SAVE sinners not to condemn them.
The first account by which we know of Noah and the flood is in the book of Genesis beginning in Chapter 6 which is assurance of this story, our creator, and our SAVIOUR; JESUS. Mount Arrarat provides an imposing view and stands as majestic testimony to GOD its creator and his plan for our SALVATION through his son JESUS CHRIST.

In 1978, Rupert Furneaux, published a paperback, Ancient Mysteries, in which he searched for findings of Biblical Mysteries on Page 44 of his book. Is the Ark on Arrarat? The report made by the Russian aviator, Captain Roskovitsky, startled the world. Flying over mount Arrarat during World War I he spotted the shape of a huge ship's hull clearly defined and embedded in the heart of a glacier. Here was proof, greatly needed, in the new age of skepticism, of the literal truth of the Bible. According to the Hebrew Book of Genesis the Ark had come to rest on the submerged summit of Mount Arrarat, a mountain 17,000 feet (5,180 meters) high. The waters of the great flood must have therefore covered the earth. All humanity must have perished, except of course, Noah and his sons and daughters.

For reference: *(NKJV) Genesis 8:4 and 5. 4. Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month on the mountains of Arrarat. 5. And the waters decreased continually untill the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen. (KJV) And the waters decreased continually untill the tenth month: in the tenth month on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. Otherwise these two verses are alike in NKJV and KJV. The NIV of the bible is essentially unchanged from KJV and NKJV and the New American Standard Bible as well.

On page 53 of his book Rupert Furneaux cited an American Expedition in 1948 up Mount Arrarat to find the ark, at a time when the Russians were exploding their first atomic bomb in the nearby Caucuses. It found nothing. In August 1952 a French Expedition went in search of the Ark. The story has been told by its leader Fernand Navarra (The forbidden mountains, McDonald, 1956). Climbing the mountain's western face, they reached the snow line at 12,500 feet (3,800 meters). Above Arrarat was dominated by 30 square miles of ice cap, 100 to 130 feet (30 to 40 meters) thick. A huge lake was engulfed by a glacier. Navarra tells the story.

In front of us, always the deep transparent ice. A few more paces and suddenly, as if it were an eclipse of the sun, the ice became strangely dark. Yes the sun was above us and still there as the eagle still circled. We were surrounded by whiteness, stretching into the distance, yet beneath our eyes was this astonishing patch of blackness within the ice, its outlines sharply defined.

Fascinated and intrigued, we began straightway to trace out its shape, mapping out its limits foot by foot: two progressive incurving lines were revealed, which were clearly defined for a distance of THREE HUNDRED CUBITS (Genesis 6:15 And this is how you shall make it: the length of the Ark shall be three hundred cubits....) , before meeting in the heart of the glacier. The shape was unmistakeably that of a ships hull: on either side the edges of the patch curved like the gunwales of a great boat. As for the central part it merged into a black mass the details of which were not descernible.

Alas, the ship was no more than a peculiar rock formation which seen from above, would look like the outline of a vessel which had been preserved for centuries in ice.

I had never expected any remnant of the ark to still exist due to its age, but this does bring up a possiblity that it may well still be there preserved in the middle of this glacier all these years, as was the WWII bomber that crashed and killed all aboard and was incorporated into the glacier it crashed onto by new snow that covered the crash. This was in South America, mystery of S-T-E-N-D-E-C and the British Lancaster airliner missing for over 50 years till it popped out the bottom of the glacier it crashed on. Noah's ark was definitely there as the Bible tells us and after reading the research Mr. Furneaux did; I think traces or remnants of the ark are possibly buried in the glacier as it appeared to be. The ice or glacier was not there when the ark grounded, only water. The bible says the ark rested on the mountains of Arrarat first. Mount Arrarat has pillow lava at 14000 feet plus which is evidence of lava eruption under water at 14000 feet and higher means that at the time of Noah the Arrarat volcano was active in eruption. There is a very large ice cap on the mountain that is very thick and thus glacial in nature. Since glaciers move objects embedded within them to their base it seems more probable any evidence or remnant of the ark would be down from the base of the ice cap on the side of Mount Arrarat. Assumption that the ark may not have landed on Mount Arrarat itself, comes from the use of the plural of mountain in Genesis 8:4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month,, upon "the mountains" of Arrarat. There are many in that Range of Mountains. KJV of Genesis had read not Arrarat but something like "rrrt" in the older bibles the new King James having been revised to reflect Arrarat. The Search for Noah's Ark web site indicates this was Urartu and provides a map. Other web sources indicate the "rrrt" may have been Armenia. Genesis 8:5 indicates the tops of the mountains could not be seen until the first day of the tenth month which was nearly two and one-half months after the ark rested on the mountains. The chronological order of these two verses are that the ark rested and the tops of the mountains could not be seen for another two and a half months after that. Mount Arrarat may well have been considerably lower in height then; it is volcanic. Topography was not the same at the time of the flood. Mount Everest is 29,000 feet and Mount Arrarat is just under 17,000 feet. The biblical account being true indicates that global geology was not the same when Noah lived. The flood covered all mountain tops by 15 cubits Gen 7.20.

The length of time the ark remained afloat in the flood was about five months, Gen 7.24. God had instructed Noah to use gopher wood and to pitch the ark within and without with pitch. Rooms were included in God's instructions as well as lower second and third stories. The Hebrew word for "nests" was used and translated to rooms in the King James Version. The material used for the "pitch" is unknown but several bible definitions include; "bitumen", "tar", "slime". The word bitumen is not further defined but in the dictionary is a form of asphalt found in a natural state such as tar and one of the origins of the word may be "gum. It is a sealer and agent that acts as a glue as in "tree sap. I think tree sap may have been used but I do not know how he would have obtained the large amount of tree sap for such a large "ark".

I think the Ark or its remnants may still be there in a Glacier or all that snow. It may also have been incorporated into the glacier and ground to bits as the glacier moved or rotted away over that period of time. Mr. Wyatt guessed that it may not be at elevation on Mount Arrarat at all but as the water level lowered the ark would have tried to remain afloat and not grounded till most of the water was gone. The way I read the scripture it rested at higher altitude. The water receeded enough to see the tops of the mountains nearly two and one-half months later. A much more detailed search can be found at Search for Noah's Ark or Mr. Ron Wyatt's web site The Ark of the Covenant. The King James Version of verses 4 and 5 says the Ark "rested" upon the "mountains" of Arrarat. This leaves room for assumption either way due to the plural of the word mountain and when it rested. It rested on a mountain in shallower part of deep water when no mountain top or land could be seen, only water. Gen 7.19-20 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.
The highest mountain tops would have been just fifteen cubits beneath the surface of the waters of the flood at its peak which is just under 25 feet by Babalonian cubit or 22 feet by Hebrew cubit measurements. The fountains of the deep? Did all the ice at the poles and all the glaciers melt along with the 40 days and nights of rain? 40 days was the same period Jesus was tempted in the Wilderness after his baptism in the Jordan by John the Baptist (Mat 3.13)

What size would the ark have been? The following was obtained from an Bible Encyclopedia. According to Genesis 6:15, the Ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The Babylonian cubit was 19.8 inches [603.504 cm] , the later Hebrew regular cubit was 17.5 inches [533.4 cm] , and the Egyptian cubit was 20.65 inches [629.12 cm] .

Based on the Hebrew cubit, the dimensions of the Ark would have been 437.5 feet [1,333 dm] long, 72.92 feet [222 dm] wide, and 43.75 feet [133 dm] high. With three decks in the Ark, it had 95,747 square feet [29,18 sq dkm] , and a total volume of 1,395,734 cubic feet [] . Its cubic tonnage would be 13,960 [42,541 cu dkm] .

Based on the Egyptian cubit used in the time of Moses(*by tradition Gen was first book of Moses), the measurements of the Ark would be 516.25 feet [1,573 dm] long, Its width would be 86.04 feet [262 dn] wide, and its height would be 51.625 feet [157 dm]. On this basis-with three stories-its square footage would be 1,332,545 square feet [40,615 sq dkm] , and its volume would be 2,293,086.9 cubic feet [69,893 cu dkm] . Its cubic tonnage would be 22,930 [20,801,637 cu kg]*[if near correct it would be about half the tonnage of the Titanic being just about 300 feet shorter than the Titanic built about 1916].

The Ark was a barge, not a ship with sloping sides, so it had a larger carrying capacity by one account and by other accounts it had more of a modern ship like appearance with curved sides. It has been reckoned that, even if measured by the smaller 18.5-inch [563.88 cm] cubit of later times, the Ark would have been so huge that 522 modern railroad box cars could have fitted inside it! One each of every species of air-breathing creatures in the works today could be comfortably carried in only 150 box cars.

For 4,000 years after the Ark was constructed, ships rarely exceeded 150 to 200 feet [457-6,096 dm] in length. It was not until after 1854 that a ship was built with a longer length than the Ark: the Etruria, a Cunard liner constructed in England. The Great Eastern ship built in 1858 was possibly the first exceeding the lenth of the ark whith the length of the Great Eastern being 692 feet and a beam of 82 feet 9 inches and depth of 30 feet. The successfull design of the ark is remarkable, given that the Egyptian Barge at least 3000 years later was only half the length or less at just under 200 feet.

When the ark rested on the mountain in the seventh month, the mountain tops were not visible, yet the ark "rested" on the mountains of Arrarat. Then in the tenth month on the 1st day the mountain tops could be seen. Present conditions cause ice and snow at elevations probably above 12000 on the mountain and replenish the glacial ice on the mountain each winter. At the time of Noah there was no ice mentioned and no mention of problems suffered due to cold air at that altitude. Then again that altitude would have been equivalent to sea level today and thus no cold air except in winter. That meant the earth's atmosphere had to have been pushed up and out by the rising flood waters. I suspect this meant that when the flood waters nearly completely abated the tops of the high mountains received snow and ice and the glacial ice was started then.

And God remembered Noah and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark, and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged; "Genesis 8.1 KJV" of the Old Testament. God caused a wind to stop the rains and start abating the waters. He also used a all night wind to part the Red Sea to provide a path for the Israelites to escape the Egyptians and a means whereby he could destroy the Egyptians and show His mighty hand of savlation. God used another ark the "Ark of the Covenant" to part the waters of the Jordan for Israel so they could pass over into the promised land. Jesus said in John 3.8, "The wind bloweth where it listeth and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth; so is every one that is born of the Spirit".
