Cucina
...a blue kitchen. The client lives in a countryside
town in the south of Italy.
The lady of the house cooks for family, friends and large gatherings.
A large kitchen was needed. It was important to stay with the rustic
look of
the land, karsic stones, local pottery and hand woven baskets, while
at the same time,
giving her all the amenities and comfort of a modern kitchen.
The design was a mixture of customized European cabinetry with persiana
shutters
as doors. An old French pantry was added for interest, along with a
distressed
large table. I designed a new lighting system. Wood plank floor with
inlayed
darker wood and exposed ceiling beams.
A brick pizza oven was an important feature for the client, since she
makes lots of
homestyle breads and pizzas. This also serves as a heating source for
the large kitchen.
The range was designed with an unconventional semicircular burning plates.
Around the range, I designed a multi-level countertop for aesthetics
and
increased functionality.
