Haryana

Bathed in greenery all around, Haryana is situated in North India. Capital of this state is Chandigarh. Haryana is just a short drive from Delhi, the capital of India. Haryana offers several tourist attractions like Kurukshetra from epic age of Mahabharata and other modern attractions like Surajkund Crafts Mela, Badhkal Lake, Dabchik, Jungle Babler, Karna Lake, Sohna, Dumdama and Sultanpur. This state was carved out of the Indian state of Punjab. The main river in Haryana is The River Yamuna which is like a boundary between Haryana and the states of Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh. There is one very famous city in Haryana and it is Gurgaon. Gurgaon is emerging as a major hub for the information technology and automobile industry. Thorny dry deciduous forest and thorny shrubs can be found all over the state.

Tourist Attractions in Haryana

Kurukshetra - This place is very famous because of its ancient and religious history. This is the place where the battle of Mahabharata was fought between Kauravas and Pandavas. Here Lord Krishna bestowed his infinite self to his pupils and followers. There are lots of sacred and holy places in Kurukshetra like The Bramha Sarover water tank, The Bhadrakali Temple, and Sri Krishna Museum which displays collection of ancient stone carvings and deities, manuscript as well as huge dioramas of Krishna's life.

Panipat - Panipat is the place in Haryana which has several battle stories. This famous town has witnessed three major battles. Here is Ibrahim Lodi's Palace which was constructed in 16th century and its tomb renovated by the Britishers during 19th century. Some more famous tourist attractions of Panipat are Kabuli Shah Mosque, built by Emperor Humayun and Jain temples.


Panchkula - Panchkula is a holy town at a distance of 8 kms from Chandigarh. There are lots of ancient temples but the most important of temple located at Panchkula is Sri Siddh Peeth of Mata Mansa Devi. This temple was established by the ruler of Panchkula. During Navratra Festival, thousands of devotees arrive here to attend this festival.

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary - This Bird Sanctuary of Haryana is considered to be one of the best visual treat for bird lovers. Every year hundreds of species of migratory birds have winged in to stay here. Winter brings in birds from as far as Siberia. Flock of geese from Europe wing in too. There is a good bird population in this sanctuary.

Surajkund - This Lake is the remains of old forts and temples and was built by Rajput King Surajpal Tomar. This place is the most famous tourist attraction of the state as every year the place hosts an arts and crafts fair known as the Surajkund Crafts Mela. The fair goes on for days together. One can also enjoy boating here.

Thaneswar - Thaneswar is a sacred town for Hindus because Lord Shiva in the form of the lingam was first worshipped here. But this place has also some other tourist attractions like tomb of Sheikh Chilli Jalal. Chini Masjid and Pathar Masjid are two outstanding Islamic monuments situated here.

Adventure Holidays in Haryana

Haryana is encouraging adventure activities to attract tourist here. Adventure Sports like Rock Climbing, Trekking, River Rafting, and Parasailing are such events held in different places and cities in the state. These are some of the adventurous sports which may certainly stop your breathe. Pinjore Aviation Club is a famous name for Parasailing rides for years. The rock climbing at “Damdama” in Haryana is really an unforgettable experience for anyone who goes there. Canoeing or kayaking is possible in the river Yamuna and the best place for this adventure is Panota Sahib to Hathnikund.

Major Cities of Haryana

Haryana is the state whose cities are well known for their attractions, holy centers, rivers, agriculture, information technology, automobile industries and many more. Most of the cities of Haryana have converted into industrial cities. Some of the cities of Haryana are famous for their handicraft which is displayed every year in a big fair called Surajkund Mela. Chandigarh is the capital city of Haryana and it is very beautiful city. Now a day this city is the major attraction for foreign investors. Gurgaon is one famous city which houses thousands of industries, call centers, hotels, malls and many more. Some more famous cities of Haryana are Ambala, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Kurukshetra, Faridabad, Hissar, Kaithal and Panipat.
