The
Summer Movie Debacle

You would think that with big names like Star Wars, Batman, The Fantastic
Four, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory you’d make more money this
summer than the last summer. If you thought that, you were wrong.
Even with the increase in prices at the movie theaters this year the summer
blockbusters failed to exceed last year’s revenues. The summer movie that
grossed more than any other this year was Star Wars: Revenge of the
Sith, with its $379 million, which was overshadowed by last year’s Shrek 2 with
its $439 million. |

"the
Messiah" Is Coming

“The Messiah” is coming to Carlinville by way of the Blackburn College Choir and the Carlinville Community choir on Saturday Dec. 3 and Sunday Dec. 4, 2005 at 7 p.m. in Clegg Chapel.
The choirs will be singing selections from the Christmas portion of “Handel’s Messiah” and the famous “Hallelujah Chorus” instead of the traditional style of Christmas concert, Vespers. |

Choir is Bigger and Better

Returning members of the Blackburn College Choir may think that rehearsals are a little more crowded than in years past. This year, the choir has grown from 20 members to 30 members.
Alumna Sandy Aper, who is joining the choir for Handel’s Messiah and has sung with the alumni Homecoming Choir for the past three years, provided interesting insight on how the choir has changed since she was a member from 1975-1977. While the size of the choir has not changed greatly since she was a member, there is one difference between the choir then and now. |
