Article on working overseas

Some general points to consider when searching for work abroad:

- the pay might sound a lot when converted into your own currency but make sure that you visit one of the travel guide sites to check out the cost of living
- try and aim for reputable businesses as there are many horror stories of individuals organising a job and then arriving to very different conditions from what they expected
- find out what, if any, benefits are included in your pay, such as accomodation (often the most important point), health insurance, travel costs (return travel to the country as well as daily travel to work), contributions to the government such as tax. Weigh up the cost of these things to determine whether you are getting a good package. Chat rooms are a good way of asking a local / experienced traveller about this sort of thing.
- if accomodation is included, are the utilities (gas, electricity and water)? Is the accomodation shared, mixed sex, furnished etc.

Basically, be very careful when hunting for a job abroad. High wages and benefits are tempting but never accept an offer until you have properly researched the business and conditions. Use all the resources available between books, friends and the web. reputable businesses should be happy to give you any information you ask for so don't be afriad to probe - it shows genuine interest and shouldn't be considered as bothersome. Chances are if a company refuses to give you reasonable information they are best avoided. Remember, once you have signed contracts and travelled to a post abroad, it is difficult to turn back so STAY SAFE and find out as much as you can BEFORE you go.
