HRH The King of Thailand (right) during his ordination with,
the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand and Abbot of Wat Bawonivet
When His Majesty King Bhumibol graciously ascended to the Throne, he gave his words as a promise to the Thai people that he would reign over the country according to the just principles of Dhramma. Those words are still in every Thai heart.
Dhamma, as understood, is performing good deeds that leave everyone concerned happy.
His Holiness Lord Buddha said that there are Ten Principles of Dhamma required by a King.
The first law is to give. In Buddhism, there are 3 categories of Giving: firstly, giving things for consumption purposes; secondly, giving wisdom or intellectual ideas to help others develop their process of thinking; and, last but not least, giving love and kindness to comfort the suffering hearts.
His Majesty King Bhumibol is truly a giver. The Thai people realize that, His Majesty the King gives them material things, wisdom and kindness.
His Majesty gives his love and respect to The Princess Mother. He takes good care of the members of the royal family. He gives money and things to his attendants. He is the patron of numerous organizations, individuals and people. He provides the four basic necessities of life to the Buddhist monks so that they can live properly in their state of monkhood, and relay the teaching of Lord Buddha to the faithful followers. The believers in other religious sects, too, receive His Majesty's support, just as the Buddhists do.
His Majesty King Bhumibol, as the ruler of our nation, gives a good life to his subjects. He has initiated thousands of projects of sustainable development for the benefit of the Thai people. He has graciously commanded the establishment of six Development Study Centers in various parts of the country. They include:
The Huai Hong Krai Development Study Center in the Doi Saket District of Chiang Mai Province.
The Phuphan Development Study Center, Muang District of Sakon Nahkon Province.
The Khao Hin Son Development Study Center in the Phanom Sarakam District, Chachoengsao Province.
The Ao Khung Kraben Development Study Center in Tha Mai District, Chanthaburi Province.
The Huai Sai Development Study Center in Cha-am District, Phetchaburi Province.
The Pikun Thong Development Study Center in the district of Muang Narathiwat, Narathiwat Province.
These Centers are directed under His Majesty's command to be models for the development of land, water-resources, agriculture and career development. They are the center points of governmental offices involved in the local development projects, which working together can use local resources worthily and efficiently for the benefit of the people.
The pictures of His Majesty the King walking around in remote areas are very familiar to the Thai people. They know by heart that His Majesty makes routine visits to examine the situation of paddy fields, water supplies, the forests and the living conditions of the common people. On each occasion, His Majesty graciously gives food, clothes and medicine to the villagers. He also gives his opinion to them regarding how best to earn a living in their particular circumstances. Sometimes the King can be seen sweating. However, his face is always bright, his eyes gently glistening and his cheerful smile ever present.
His Majesty King Bhumibol not only gives the necessities of life to help his subjects live happily, but he also supplies them wisdom to live prosperously. He initiated the Project of the Thai Encyclopaedia for the younger generation and students. It is the collection of knowledge for everyone who can read. He sponsors several scholarships that are paid directly from his private treasury, and on behalf of other foundations, namely, the Ananda Mahidol Foundation and the Navarirk Foundation, not to mention the Bhumibol Scholarship on his own behalf. There are also Rajprachanukhro and Chaipattana Foundations to help those suffering and in need.
The royal kindness and grace of His Majesty King Bhumibol toward the people of Thailand is beyond words. What he has given, he hs given with all his strength, mind and hert. Never once has he yearned only for his comfort, or ever stopped thinking about the well being of his people.
Long Live His Majesty the King.
