History of Phooj Ywg Band
�The name "Phooj Ywg", meaning "Friends" in the English language. Phooj Ywg Band, was formed in 1978, in Nong Khai, Thailand. The band was started from an organization called, "Phooj Ywg Youth Organization". At the beginning, there were 5 guys, or band members that started it all. Out of that 5 member band, Ly Pao, or better known by the Hmong Community as, Lis Pos, is the guitarist, and lead singer. Ly Pao today is still singing and playing his guitar, and is the only original member still in the band.
From Nong Khai, Thailand, to the United States of America, the band has had many early achievements. One of the most memorable achievements was winning the first ever Band Contest held in the United States. This was also the first ever Hmong New Year to be held in Stockton, California in 1984. Since then, Phooj Ywg Band has recorded many great albums. With the success of these albums, Phooj Ywg was able to put themselves in the hearts of the Hmong Communities, in the United States, and even more in Thailand, and Laos. Today, Phooj Ywg Band resides in Fresno, California, where all of the new and current band members live. Phooj Ywg Band today has 7 members currently including Ly Pao the singer. During the past years, Phooj Ywg has gone through many great changes, for the better of the band. Members having other great goals to aim for, went to pursue their goals, while other new members joined in. It's an ever on going process, which helps Phooj Ywg flow with it's new generation of listeners. The members of the band has changed many times, but the foundation, and the name, "PHOOJ� YWG", still remains solid strong. Phooj Ywg Band, has held many concerts including New Year Celebrations, Fund-Raising parties, Weddings, Banquets, and just pure Dance parties. During this past Hmong New Year Celebration at Fresno Fair Grounds, in Fresno, California, Phooj Ywg was the Host Band. We had many great laughs, fun times, and met new friends.
