Prayers

He asked for strength that he might achieve,
He was made weak that he might obey.

He asked for health that he might do greater things,
He was given infirmity that he might do better things.

He asked for riches that he might be happy,
He was given poverty that he might be wise.

He asked for power that he might have the praise of men,
He was given weakness that he might feel the need for God.

He asked for all things that he might enjoy life,
He was given life that he might enjoy all things.

He has received nothing that he asked for,
All that he hoped for,

His prayer is answered; he is most blessed.

Let Me Give

I do not know how long I'll live
But while I live, Lord, let me give
Some comfort to someone in need
By smile or nod, kind word or deed.

And let me do what ever I can
To ease things for my fellow man.
I want naught but to do my part
To "lift" a tired or weary heart.

To change folks' frowns to smiles again.
Then I will not have lived in vain
And I'll not care how long I'll live
If I can give ... and give ... and give.

Cherished Friends

God must have known there would be times
We'd need a word of cheer
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.
He must have known we'd need to share
The joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.
I think he knew our troubled hearts
Would sometimes throb with pain
At trials and misfortunes
Or some goals we can't attain.
He knew we'd need the comfort
Of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
To make a fresh, new start.
He knew we'd need companionship
Unselfish...lasting...true,
And so God answered the heart's great need
With CHERISHED FRIENDS...like You...
