Hal Horwitz, D.D.S.

Hal Horwitz, a native and resident of Richmond, Va.,
graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1964,
specializing in pediatric dentistry.
For over thirty years, he has photographed people,
places, and things-above and below water.
Fifteen years ago, he became fascinated with wildflowers,
and has photogrpahed little else since.
Hal developed a special interest in the orchids native to North America,
and, to date, has photographed over 150 North American species,
including all 57 species native to Virginia.

He and his wife, Helen, have traveled from Florida to Newfoundland to Alaska
capturing the beauty of wildflowers on film.
Although it is exciting to see new plants and new parts of North America and around the world,
Hal best loves to photograph in his home territory of Virginia.

He has taught numerous photography courses,
and shown multi-media slide presentations and lectured at symposiums,
orchid societies, garden clubs, wildflower societies, and civic groups.
One-man exhibitions have been mounted in private and public galleries
and museums in the Mid-Atlantic area.
His images have been published worldwide in magazines, books, advertisements, and digital productions.
Presently, in addition to his work on North American Native Orchids,
Hal is writing a book on the Wild Orchids of Israel.

Hal's article, "From Colony To Commonwealth-The Story Of Orchid Exploration In Virginia,"
is featured in the 45th EOC Program.
His lecture presentation, "In Praise of Native Orchids,"
is a unique, multi-media experience which should be seen by all orchid lovers.
