A.A.(Art)Chadwick

Art Chadwick has been growing orchids for over 55 years.
He grew up in an era when the Cattleya species were grown in large numbers for cut flowers,
growing them both commercially and as an amateur.
Two of his neighbors were Fitz Dixon and Wharton Sinkler, the 2nd and 3rd presidents of the AOS.

He registered his first hybrid in 1950,
and still actively breeds Cattleyas to enhance the basic knowledge of the Cattleya species.
By the 45th EOC, he will have written nine articles
on the large-flowered Cattleya species for the AOS magazine Orchids, with more to follow.

Art is a graduate of Penn State University,
where he majored in Plant Pathology, Botany, and Taxonomy.
He is a co-holder of a patent on plant viricides.
For 12 years, he headed the International Agricultural Division of Hercules, Inc.,
and traveled to all of the South and Central American countries where the Cattleya species grew naturally.

Art is a former President and Honorary Life Member of the Delaware Orchid Society.
His wife, Anne, painted the watercolor of Cattleya harrisoniae
for the cover of the 12th EOC program in Delaware in 1957.
Art ice skates for exercise and he and Anne are competitive ballroom dancers.

His son Arthur and daughter-in-law Rebecca own Chadwick & Son Orchids, Inc. in Powhatan, Va.
