A modern form of the name Ryther may to have come about as Rider

Lord Ryther of Ryther, Co York (Yorkshire), England, was, in 1287, the Keeper of
the Peace. He married in about 1283, Lucy, daughter of John de Ros, son of Robert,
1st Lord Ros of Helmsly. Their son
Robert Ryther, Lord of Ryther in 1316, died in 1322, having had, by Maud, his wife,
two sons of which
Robert, born about 1316 had a son Robert (born about 1335).
Robert married Margaret, daughter of Sir William de Southeby and had a son
William Ryther of Ryther (born ca 1355, died ca 1426). He married Sibyl, younger
daughter of William de Aldeburgh, 1st Lord Aldeburgh and sister and co-heir of
William, 2nd Lord Aldeburgh. They had a son
William Ryther (born ca 1375 and died 1440) of Ryther. By his wife, Maud (1383-
1434) daughter of Sir Thomas Umfreville
and sister and co-heir of Sir Gilbert
Umfreville, he had a son
William Ryther (died 1475) of Ryther, who by his second wife Eleanor FitzWilliam, he
had two sons, Robert (1438-1491) and
Ralph Ryther (born ca 1445 and died 1520) of Ryther. By his second wife, Maud
