Suzanne Wilson describes
herself as positive, friendly, sincere, and down to earth. These are the
qualities that help her get the message of injury prevention across to people of
all ages. In 1989 Suzanne was involved in a car crash. She was 15 years old,
driving too fast and not wearing a seat belt. She received a spinal cord
injury, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.
Before her injury, Suzanne was
a cheerleader, ran track and was very involved in other activities at Haughton
High School. The thought of being in a wheelchair never crossed her mind.
Suzanne found that she could still lead a full and productive life, but had to
cope with the challenges of being in a wheelchair.
Suzanne graduated from
Haughton High School in 1992. She then went to East Texas Baptist University in
Marshall Texas to pursue an undergraduate degree in education. Suzanne earned
her Bachelors of Science in Education in 1997, and is a certified teacher in the
state of Texas and Louisiana. While attending ETBU, she met her husband Clint.
They are enjoying their two children, Micahla and Reid. Suzanne became involved with the Think First Foundation in December of 1997. She has a desire to use her accident to reach others. Suzanne doesn't want this to happen to anyone else. She says, "If I'm able to help prevent one person from receiving a permanent, life changing injury, then I will have made a difference |
