"The Dance" . . . The crowd swayed in time to the upbeat tempo of "Walking in Memphis" as Mulder turned to face Scully, his back to Cher and the Great Mutato dancing on the stage. He paused and then swiveled to the side, head bent, his arm held out to the still-sitting Dana Scully, in an impression of Elvis at his most sanguine cool.
A flush of surprise lit Scully's face, but she grasped his hand immediately and without looking up, he pulled her into his arms. She curved into them, her body melding against his as if they were made for each other.
He smiled, but still did not look up as his arm tightened about her waist. Glancing up, his smile grew, slow and sensuous, as their eyes met. She radiated happiness as he swayed her back and forth, their hands clasped.
The music slowed down to a gentle beat as Cher sang:
and Fox Mulder and Dana Scully danced, exactly where they belonged ... swaying to the music, smiling into each other's eyes, in one another's arms.
