6x6 - How the Ghosts Stole Christmas

"I Got You a Little Something" . . . Mulder sat on his couch, watching A Christmas Carol, when he heard a loud banging. He looked up to the ceiling and then got up, peering at the front door, surprised that anyone was knocking on his door on Christmas Eve. He walked over and shut the television off, then went to his front door and opened it. Scully stood on his threshold.

A slightly bashful look was on her face as she explained her presence, "I, uh, I couldn't sleep. I was, uhm --" she paused and scrunched up her face and shoulders, "can I come in?"

Automatically, Mulder stood to the side and placed an arm around her, shepherding her in, "yeah, weren't you supposed to be opening Christmas gifts with your family?" he asked as he walked inside and shut the door behind her.

Ignoring his question, she stopped and then slowly turned to face him, asking cautiously, "Mulder, none of that really happened out there tonight? That was all in our heads, right?"

"Must've been," he agreed mildly and he entered the living room, standing before her. She nodded slightly, "mmm, not that my, uh, only joy in life is proving you wrong."

"When have you proven me wrong?" he asked quietly. She gazed up at him, confusion on her face, "well, why else would you want me out there with you?"

"You didn't want to be there?" he asked immediately.

A dazed look of exasperation filled her face and Mulder paused, realizing the underlying meaning of his question. "Oh, that's, uhm, self-righteous and narcissistic of me to say, isn't it?"

"No, uhm," she countered with, "maybe, I did want to be out there with you." He smiled slightly, but she still looked slightly dazed and confused.

Through the Window     Mulder walked past her, murmuring under his breath, "you know, I know that we said we weren't going to," he paused as he turned to her, holding a long, tubular present wrapped in Christmas paper, "to exchange gifts." Scully turned to face him, "but, uh," he continued, a grin upon his face as held the present before him, "I got you a little something."

She looked up at him and a girlish smile lit her face, "Mulder," she purred."

"Merry Christmas," he offered softly and with a smile of resignation, she pulled something out of her coat, "well, I got you a little something, too."

He laughed as he took the brightly-wrapped, square-shaped gift from her. He began to shake it and a mischievous grin played across Scully's face as the two clutched their gifts with glee and headed to the couch. With laughter and enthusiasm, they proceeded to rip open the wrapping as the snow fell softly outside the window.
