"Purple Rain" . . . "Can you tell me why we're standing out here in the middle of a field looking at a dead goat?" Scully asked of her partner with reasonable wonder, considering the goat. As per the norm, he had a reason.
"Well, according to eyewitnesses the death we're investigating was proceeded by a Fortean event -- that's a highly unusual or infrequent meteorlogical phenomenon also known as a transient."
Throughout his explanation, he popped sunflower seeds and managed a few more before, during and after Scully's bemused "a transient?" response.
"Yeah," he continued, "witnesses described a bright flash about thirty degrees off the horizon, then a hot yellow rain fell from a cloudless sky." He glanced down at the seeds, carefully sorting them. "Fortean researchers call these 'liquid falls.' Black and red rains are the most common, but there have also been reported cases of blue, purple, and green rains."
Grasping at the familiar phrase in his discourse, she asked mildly, "purple rain?"
Obviously following her train of thought, he offered a personal Mulder thumbs up and down.
"Yeah, great album. Deeply flawed movie, though."
