Bridget Sheridan and Patrick Lanahan

Bridget Sheridan was born 1840 in Co. Tipperary, Ireland. She married Patrick Lanahan/Lenighan at St Peter's Church in Rutland on September 23, 1867.

Patrick was born 1834 in Co. Cork, Ireland. He was employed at the Rutland Rail Road. In the 1889 Rutland city directory he is listed as a painter.

The Lanahans lived at 19 Meadow St, Rutland, VT near Bridget's sister Anne. Some time after 1911 they moved to 51 Chestnut Street.

Bridget Lanahan died 7-12-1907 buried in Calvary cemetery. Patrick Lanahan died 2-12-1905. His parents were Michael Lanahan and Margaret Keough. He died of Brights Disease. He is buried in Calvary cemetery.


July 15, 1907- Funeral of Mrs. Lanahan - Services held at St. Peter's Church Yesterday Afternoon

The funeral of Mrs. Patrick Lanahan who died Friday night at her home on Meadow street was held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at St. Peter's Church. Rev. T. J. Henry officiated. The bearers were Timothy Gleason, P.J.Connors, John Barrett, Timothy Halpin, John McIntyre and D. J. Healey. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were John Murry of Springfield, Mass; Miss Elizabeth Wilkinson of Albany NY; Miss Anna McNamara and James McNamara of Savannah, GA; Mrs. Ellen Murther and Michael and John O'Neil of Castleton; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Fox, Mrs. Matthew Fox, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Candon and William and Charles Fox of Pittsford; Miss Mary and Bernice Flood of Poultney; James Sheridan of Proctorsville; John Roach and Morris Dorney of Bellows Falls, James and Edward Cannon of Burlington and Margaret Clifford of Whitehall NY. The choir was assisted by Mrs. Prosper Lorette, Mrs. D.A. Cocklin, Miss Anna McIntyre, and Miss Rachael Dupois. The burial was in
Calvary Cemetery.

7-13-1907- Death of Mrs. Patrick Lanahan

Mrs. Patrick Lanahan, aged 63 years, died at 7 o'clock last evening at her home No. 30 Meadow Street, after a two weeks illness. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Stone and Mrs. John Hogan of this city, and two sons Patrick A of this city and Joseph E. Lanahan of Brooklyn NY; two sisters Mrs. William Seward of Rutland and Mrs. Matthew Fox of Pittsford, one brother James Sheridan of Proctorsville. The funeral will be held at St. Peter's Church tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock and high mass will be celebrated Monday morning at 9 o'clock.

2-15-1905 - Funeral of Patrick Lanahan

The funeral of Patrick Lanahan who died at his home on Meadow Street Sunday morning was held at St. Peter's Church at 9 o'clock yesterday morning. Rev. J. B. McGarry celebrating High Mass. The church choir was assisted by a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Moloney, Mrs. D.A. Cocklin, and M.J. Clifford. Mrs. Cocklin also sang a solo. The bearers were T. H. Halpin, P J. Connors, Hugh Duffy, Cornelius O'Brien, Peter Stone and Dominick Corcoran all of this city. Among those present from out of town were William J. Wilkinson of Hartford CT; Joseph E. Lanahan of Philadelphia, Mrs. William H. Clifford and daughter Jean of Saratoga NY; Miss Elizabeth Marle Wilkinson of Albany NY; John Murray of Springfield Mass; M O'Neil and Mrs. Thomas Hart of Castleton, Mrs. M. Fox, William and Edward Fox of Pittsford. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Rev. William Crosby officiating at the grave.

Feb 13, 1905 - Patrick Lanahan

Patrick Lanahan, aged 67 years, died at his home on Meadow Street yesterday morning at 8:45 o'clock. He is survived by his wife, two sons Patrick of this city and Joseph of Philadelphia, and two daughers Miss Margaret Lanahan and Mrs. George Stone both of this city. He is also survived by two sister Mrs. A.D.Boland and Mrs. James Lawles both of Jersey City, NJ. The funeral service will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. The burial will
be in Calvary Cemetery.

Bridget and Patrick had had the following children:

  1. Mary A - born Sept 21, 1869.
  2. Margaret - born Jan 15, 1871
  3. Patrick A Lanahan -born April 12, 1872. He was a RR conductor.  Died July 31, 1931 of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was living at 51 Chestnut Street at the time of his death and is buried in the Calvary cemetery. His wife was Margaret Gleason. Patrick A Lanahan and Margaret Gleason married 9-2-1902. Their children were:
    1. Robert b. May 24, 1908
    2. Frederick John born Jan 20, 1912 and died Jan 26, 1987
    3. George Henry born 7-17-1906 died 9-29-1954
    4. Joseph Gleason Lanahan born 6-14-1903
    5. Mary Elizabeth born 2-14-1910
  4. Mary born 4-12-1872 In 1887 she worked at T. W. and Company. Shirtmaker.
  5. John - born 9-22-1873
  6. Joseph Edward - born April 9, 1875 and died May 30, 1936
  7. James - born April 9, 1875
