XinYao
XinYao (pronounced Sing-Yeow) describes songs (usually Chinese songs)
written in Singapore. XinYao is very popular amongst schools and
colleges during the late 70s and early 80s here in Singapore.
Performances in schools are often held to present these original songs to
the public. More than often, songs presented are ballads and tell of love
and friendship. These performances usually involves few musical
instruments, including the omnipresent classical guitar. Among the
many XinYao "activists", a handful made it to the top of local
and international music scene.
For example Liang Wern Foo and Eric Moo.
Sadly, XinYao died down in the late 80s.
Singaporeans no longer hold great interests in this form of local music.
HuaXin Music Studio
We are a group of young people in Singapore who pen our feelings
and thoughts into songs. We find immense pleasure in writing our own
lyrics, composing and arranging our own music;
following the great tradition of XinYao.
HuaXin Music Studio hold performances in Singapore
every 2 years. These performances
served to publicise our original songs to fellow
Singaporeans and put to practice our
singing skills. Our performances are presently small scale,
going out to an audience of
200-500 persons.
We get together every Saturday night between 7:30 pm to 10 pm at
Paya Lebar Community Club to discuss coming performances,
present new songs to the rest of the gang, sing and play musical
instruments. This is usually followed by a visit to the McDonalds
nearby for some light supper and smalltalk.
Community Clubs
HuaXin Music Studio resides in Paya Lebar Community Club ( PLCC ).
In Singapore, Community Clubs are built in each district by the
government, for people to get together. As most people in Singapore
stay in flats, these Community Clubs provides facilities like squash,
badminton, tennis and basketball courts. It is also a place for
learning cooking, computer, music, martial arts, handicraft, painting
and languages.
