Some of the more interesting Answers to the Question, "What Is Gothic?"
Imp - Gothic is a sense of life. It is looking at things from another point of veiw. I do not consider myself a "goth" especially not one of those upper class white kids with died hair and blak lipstick that thinks all it takes to be a "goth" is to listen to Marilyn Mason's sucky music and wearing white and black make-up. Gothic is a type of art and literature. When I think of things "gothic" I think of churches with vestibules like Notre Domme. Okay enough rant.
Ivy - It's an adjective, and also the name of a people, a culture, a way of life, for many who do not choose to conform to society's mainstream lifestyles.
Keki - It means the truth within, catering only to the honest beliefs of those it inhabits. It's not a visual, but something felt within, dwelling as a part of your soul, giving way to nothing false.
Tim - people who dress in black. All have own reasons. to each his/her there own. Some believe that Gothic is a midevil term used for a dreary civilization of people , much like today's society. Goth=cool
Natalie - a group of people with a different way of looking at things, an intense love of the color black, and often an air of supieriority
Dawn - to me it is a certian group of people, or person, but to me personally...it does not fit/apply
Seraphim - Uh...yes?...False?...letter D...I dont know?
Alan - gothic is an interesting way of showing how differnt everyone is and in a way that is cool at the same time. some people dont understand it then they are assholes, but the people who do now and like it cause they are individuals, and not like the rest of the other crap. and anyways gothic is pretty cool in my book.
Michelle - It's a label used to categorize people who dress darkly, listen to certain music, and think slightly different than the average american. It's also a literary style that deals with violence, decay, desertion, and other fears of the average american.
Ayeka / Evarin - a great genre of literature. also a close to home social catagory.
Jennifer - beautiful, in an aged sense
Beth / LdyLiquid - In my simple opinion, I feel it is in being in love with the fact of being in love with darkness, and passion for nature in a dark, meloncholy way. But I wouldn't know much about gothism, nor do I care...much. People belive what they want and hey, that's fine with me...who am I to stop them.
Josilyn - a bunch of morbid sixteen year olds who have nothing better to do but wish they were dead. They think they are so depressed, yet they have more of a life than I do.
Carigana - It means that even if you're not a mansonite(ick),and don't wear black,if you have the mentality of a goth,you are one.
Dystopik - well. it -doesn't- mean to to dress up in black every night and call yourself 'goth' to everyone you see. it's more a frame of mind. a way to live your life, and believe in things.
Fuck Me - the evil of the unknown and the fear that lives in the shadows, the "hearts" of christians and in all forms of organized government that exist. Gothicness is a way to sacre other individuals and yourself!
Trish - Sadly beautiful, when referring to gothic as a mindset.. pathetic, when referring to it as a trend.
Andy - something that you aren't
Mark - It means things which you cannot contemplate, so dont even try to describe what you think it is in your twisted little brain.
OZZY - loss of religion for the better, and death/ darkness into nothieng but ever loving hell.
My Name - ummm, old style. Mideval time more than anything.
Maria - It means "dark" but there is something irresistably appealing about it. I dunno what exactly. I find that dark looking people look a lot more graceful and beautiful than the bouncy sunflowers type. I don't think I could ever be a true goth because I could never live my life dwelling only on the beauty of death. I'm a more good/bad balance person.
The pimp - It means whatever you beleve it to be within the dark realms of the shadow walkers.
Biggie J - don't fuck with the REAL Gothic population at large [Malachite]---I know who you are, and I'm not very pleased with your attitude lately. If you do not repent to the darkness the armies of the night will seek you out and ensure you a fiery, puss-filled death. Snootchie bootchies!
Demetra - I didn't have my dictionary handy so I couldn't look it up. But it does mean something.
Clown - it means to me an exuse, or shall i say mask to hide who you really are
Victoria - Someone lost in their own world.
Raveness - That label that everyone calls me. Because I wear Siouxsie Shirts, and I have more eyeliner than regular pencils
