"You brushed my eyes with angels' wings, full of love, the kind that makes devils cry" - You Have Been Loved (George Michael)

My wife, Anita S. Eapen (nee Joseph), has completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree and is currently studying for her Chartered Accountancy certification, having already cleared the first group of the C.A. Inter exam. Hailing from Cochin, she is the complete opposite of me in all respects :). She is interested in music, singing, travelling and watching endless Hindi soap operas on TV, something I detest :). We were married in Cochin on June 8, 2003.

My father, Eapen Valakuzhy or Babu as everybody calls him, is a mechanical engineer by qualification. He has worked at a variety of jobs, ranging from being a manager in an Iron and Steel plant in North Mumbai, to handling the Indian side of operations for a US firm involved in importing pig iron (an impure form of iron used in casting processes) from Brazil. I remember being dragged off at an early age by him to the sleepy village of Shahapur in rural Maharashtra and being shown giant dilapidated cowsheds where a TV tuner factory was to come up. That never materialised however. Very active socially, he has held positions in the Lions Club and helps various other social causes.

My mother, Dr. (Mrs.) Susan Eapen, is a senior scientific officer working at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai. She is currently head of the Plant Biotechnology and Secondary Metabolites Section there. She is a highly accomplished researcher, having published lots of scientific papers and having spoken at various seminars. Her work is basically in the field of plant genetics, and involves genetic transformation of crop plants into more sturdy, high-yield varieties that would help in mitigating the hunger that millions of Indians would face otherwise.

My younger brother, Aby Eapen, is currently studying architecture at the Pillai's College of Architecture, Panvel, Navi Mumbai. As a kid, he used to collect junk off the street and assemble it together into works of art ... perhaps a foretaste of the profession he was planning to pursue. Besides his drawing and designing work, he is also interested like most architects in the pleasures of rock music. As children, we had our fair share of disagreements that more than once ended in fisticuffs. But all that is thankfully in the past, and we are the best of buddies now.

Last, but not least, who can forget the youngest canine member of our family, our dog Kevin. When he first came into my arms, he was only 25 days old. But, countless chewed shoes, dirty carpets and reluctant baths later, he has grown to become an inseparable part of the family. Whoever said a dog is a man's best friend is right on the mark. I have spent countless blissful hours in his company that would not have been afforded to me by any creature, human or otherwise, in a similar subservient position.
(P.S. - Kevin died on September 7, 2002. He will be dearly missed.)
