T5 Conversion

Besides time and money, what is needed besides the crossmember, slip yoke, and driveshaft to convert a standard 3 spd manual transmission to a T5?

You can actually use the bell housing from a 5.0... it should fit the ford small block fine. Those trannys also fit right into a chevy small block as well.

My T-5 was $700, used.
My Tremec TKO was $1450, including sales tax at my local SVO dealer.

It's actualy cheaper using the late model 5.0 bell. All you have to get is a kit that moves the fork fulcrum 1" forward. If you use the early style bell, then you have to get a adaptar plate which are expensive. You can keep your clutch. I put a stock 66 clutch in mine. Have had no problems yet, and it has got quite afew miles on it too.

What about going from an auto trans to a manual?

Does anyone know how to change the interior side components to manual from auto? I have a 69 auto and should soon have in my possession a clutch and brake pedal assembly from a '70 Mustang. Also, I have heard that a cable clutch is the way to go if doing this. Any thoughts?

Ask me how hard the T5 swap is after next weekend, thats when my 351W and T5 are going in. I've never done a swap before, but I'm going to take a shot at it. Any advice?

Its EZ!! I did it when I was 16. If a punk 16 year old can do it. I think most anybody can. The hardest part for me was rounding up all the parts. I got the bell of ebay, trans off ebay , my brother had a flyweel, I found a clutch fork, and a friend of the family had the clutch/brake pedal. I made my own cross member, I didnt shorten the dv shaft, and I bought a new 66 clutch. The rest I bought new from mustangs plus (zbar, fulcrum yatta yatt yatta). The rest is basicly a trany swap. thats it. I didn't go with cable cause I didn't have the money and I didnt want to mess with it. My old style zbar works smooth as butter.

ok blue:
1) u can just put the clutch pedal into ur already mounted brake pedal assy cant u? u dont have to change the WHOLE thing?

2) u didnt shorten the driveshaft? did u use the new yoke or just put the new thing in without changing anything? (im really cheap and dont wanna spend money)

thanks. *update: gotta just get cable kit, clutch, and crossmember(which i dunno if i wanna make or just buy) and machine work (flywheel, dunno if i wanna get my driveshaft shortened if i dont have to) and the T5 will be ready to go in!*

1) Yes you just have to take out the old brake pedal, slip in the smaller brake pedal then slip in the clutch pedal. You dont have to change the suport. this was the most difficult part of the job. It took a couple of hours to figure it out. There is also a spring hangar that you have to bolt in place. You can do with out it though. I put it in but left the spring off, so I know it will be there if I need it. I left the spring off cause I liked the feel with out it.

2) nope I didn't shorten my dv shaft, and no I didnt get a new yoke. I just used the old one. After I was done with every thing els. I slid it in and found that I had from 1 1/2- 1" of room. I just left it and have had no problems. You dont need to worry about he length of the c4 yoke. The nerest gear to it is the speedo gear and it is way up in front of it. I think puting the t5 yoke in is pointless.

Have fun, you will love it.

Due to the insufficiencies of the search feature, namely the 5 character minimum requirement, there are many useful swap threads that are difficult to dig up.

Because of this, any useful swap threads I find (EFI, T-5, AOD, Granada disc brakes, etc...) I will add a new post containing the word " swapper ".
I ask that you guys do the same thing so we can keep these cool threads a search away.
This goes for any new threads that pertain to this also.
