Not costly at all if you go the junk yard route. It's fun to do actually. I've done it and now with a little more experience would have changed somethings that I did but I'm doing it over so in the end It should look much neater when I hide all of the wiring. I have a complete conversion kit that I was going to use on 67 coupe but have opted to keep it carburated. Especially do it if your not dependant on the car it being your sole method of transportation. I did it when my fastback was my only car and road a damn mountain bike for a month I'm happy with it just in search of more power and better looks now.

67' Coupe- under construction still unsure what to do. Has ported heads, Edelbrock carb, Erson cam, weiand intake, hooker hedders, probably scrapping the this engine and putting in a roller motor with a lantech aod or t-5. Might also convert it to efi with a set of aluminum heads.

70' Torino-Edelbrock intake,cam,carb,rr's,windage tray,ceramic coated headers,ported heads,duals, c-4, mostly a cruiser

84' Svo- turbo set to 18 psi, in the works is a 3" down pipe, vortech intercooler, 58 mm throttle body, ported manifold, turbo coupe upper and lower box type intake ported, and whatever else comes up.

-So much to do so little time.
-Anything worth doing isn't easy.

I have the 5.0 and AOD sitting in my wifes 67 but I am at a standstill with the wiring. I got all the parts out of a wrecked 90 Lincoln Town Car with under 100.000 miles on it and a brand new trans for $250. I bought the whole car, pulled anything dealing with the motor and ECM. That way I had all I needed for the swap. I built a trans crossmember but otherwise it was a bolt in. Just need time to finish. I also have to replace the fuel lines and add an electric fuel pump to make it work. A good place for info and guidance is a site called ronmorrisperformance.com they specialize in EFI swaps. My suggestion is go with a complete car as the donor and take lots of notes on how and what goes where. Oh yeah, you'll have to shorten the driveshaft if you go with the AOD as well (which is a good idea anyway).

Cool

edelbrock has a complete system out that bolts on and uses a modified victor jr intake(it come already modified by edelbrock). the system is tunable without a laptop, just a screwdriver. fort he amount of money and time you will put in with getting a harness, new sensors, etc. you can spend a few extra bucks and have a complete system the bolts on with virtualy no problems.

My first 5.0 HO cost me $550 with computer and wiring. I figured another $350 in sensors and other misc parts. That motor got stolen, so i bought a non HO 5.0 for $250, another $100 for a HO cam and new timing set, and $350 for a the Main and Engine harness from FMS, and im going to use the parts that werent on the motor that got stolen to complete the project. So for under the price of the Edelbrock setup i got 2 motors and then some. And i can go down the street to autozone to pick up replacement parts, unlike the edelbrock setup.

Cool

that is the beauty of the edelbrock system. you can buy parts from autzone as the sensors are used on other cars.

yup the edlebrock set up uses stock sensors. The system is great if you have the money for it. Also I don't know what kind of gas milage you actually get from it.

2 main things to consider, where will the electronics go and fuel system.
the fuel system on efi needs a return line to tank. the tank needs a sump for pickup. you will be using elec fuel pumps now. they are diff from mach pumps.
is doable but would be good to have donor car nearby for parts.
there is always something you overlook.

You adjust it with a screwdriver?
If that is the case then I wouldn't expect it to be that good.

no, I don't know what that guy is talking about....

the add-on EFI system comes with its own ECM unit and you have a computer control module to tap into it. It isn't adjusted with a screw....

camshaft - the swap is realativly easy. do a search on the classics section of the forum for the word "swapper" and there will be tons of info on it. THe wiring is NOT hard at all, you have to splice around 8 wires into your existing car harness and most of those are 1 of 2 things: constant power and switched hot source. The crossmemeber for the transmission can be purchased from windsor fox. Easy swap if you can splice wires.
